To prevent scratches on the glass covering
the Head-up Display, do not place any ob-
jects in the projection opening.

- Sunglasses with polarizat ion fi lters and
unf avorable lighting condit ions can af-
fect the display.
- A special windshield is needed for the
Head-up Display funct ion.

Open door/hood/rear lid warning

With t he ignition swit ched on, the warning il-
lum inat es when at least one door or t he hood
or the rear lid is not closed. The symbol also
shows you
which door(s) or li d is not closed.

On-Board Diagnostic
system (OBD)
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Malfunction In dicator Lamp (MIL) ¢..ifl in
the inst rument clust er is part of the On-Board
Diagnostic (OBD II) system .
The warning/ind icator light ill um inat es when
the ign ition is switc hed on and goes out afte r
the engine starts and t he idle has stabilized.
This indicates that t he MIL is working proper ·
Ly.
If the light does not go out afte r t he engine
is starte d, or illumi nates while you are driv-
ing, a malf unction may exist in the engine sys-
tem .
If the light illumi nates, t he catalytic con-
verter could be damaged .
Contin ue driving
with reduced power (avoid-
ing susta ined high speeds and/or rapid accel-
erations) and have the cond ition corrected .
Contact your authori zed Audi dealer.
If the light illuminates, the electronic speed
li miter may also be malfunct ioning. For more

On-Board Diagnost ics monitors t he compo-
nents of your emission cont rol system. Each
monitored component in your engine system
has been assigned a code. In case of a mal-
funct ion, the component will be identified
and the fault stored as a code in the control
module memory.
The MIL light may also illuminate if there is a
leak in the on-board fuel vapor recovery sys-
tem. If the lig ht illuminates after a refueling,
stop the vehicle and make sure the fuel fi ll er
cap is prope rly closed

In order to make an accurate diagnosis, the
stored data can only be displayed using spe-
cial diagnostic equipment (generic scan tool
furOBru.
