Overview

The AudioSource AMP100VS is a stereo power amplifier designed for various audio applications, offering both stereo and bridged mono operation. It features a robust set of controls and connectivity options, making it suitable for home audio systems, multi-source setups, and distributed audio environments.

Function Description:

The AMP100VS serves as a stereo power amplifier, capable of delivering 50W per channel into 8 ohms or 60W per channel into 4 ohms in stereo mode. When configured for bridged mono operation, it can output 150W into an 8-ohm load. Key features include MAIN/INTERRUPT priority input switching, which allows a secondary source to take precedence over the main input when a signal is detected. It also provides a MAIN auxiliary output for passing the main input signal to other amplifiers. Speaker A/B switching enables the selection of two independent speaker zones or both simultaneously. Front panel controls for Balance and Volume offer convenient audio adjustment, while rear-mounted Treble and Bass controls allow for tone shaping. The amplifier supports signal sensing for automatic power-on ("Auto On" mode) and a Trigger mode for external control, ensuring flexible integration into various systems.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Output:
    • Stereo (8 ohm): 50W per channel, <0.2% THD+N
    • Stereo (4 ohm): 60W per channel, <0.2% THD+N
    • Bridged Mono (8 ohm): 150W, 1kHz, <1% THD+N
  • Frequency Response: 10Hz~30kHz, +0dB/-3dB
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 100dB below 50W output into 8 ohms
  • Channel Separation: 70dB @ 1kHz, referred to 50W output into 8 ohms
  • Input Sensitivity: 700mV input for rated 50W output into 8 ohms
  • Bass/Treble Control: +/-12dB @ 100Hz and 10kHz
  • AC Power Consumption: 500W maximum
  • Dimensions: 16.5" (420mm) width x 2.9" (74mm) height x 9.5" (242mm) depth
  • Weight: Net 9.6lbs / 4.4kgs, Gross 10.8lbs / 4.9kgs
  • Minimum Speaker Impedance: 8 ohms for bridged mono, 4 ohms for stereo. For A+B zones, each speaker must be 8 ohms or greater.
  • Fuse: 5 x 20mm T4A 250V

Usage Features:

  • Front Panel Controls:
    • Power Switch: Toggles the amplifier on/off. An LED indicates standby (red) or active audio signal (green).
    • Speaker Selector (A/B): Selects speaker zone A, B, or both (A+B).
    • Balance: Adjusts output balance between left and right channels.
    • Volume: Controls overall amplifier output volume.
  • Rear Panel Controls:
    • Bass and Treble Controls: Adjusts tone at 100Hz and 10kHz, respectively.
    • MAIN/INTERRUPT Inputs: MAIN IN is the primary input, while INTERRUPT IN is a secondary input that takes priority when a signal of at least 5mV is detected. The amplifier switches back to MAIN IN after a brief delay if the INTERRUPT signal is absent or below 5mV.
    • MAIN Output: Passes the MAIN IN signal to other amplifiers.
    • 12V Trigger: Allows external devices to power the AMP100VS on/off or for the AMP100VS to control other devices.
    • Mode Select Switch (Stereo/Bridged): Configures the amplifier for stereo or bridged mono operation. In bridged mode, a Y-cable adapter is used to combine left and right RCA signals into the Right (Red) input at MAIN IN.
    • AUTO ON Select Switch (Normal/Auto/Trigger):
      • Normal: Manual power on/off via the front panel switch.
      • Auto: Amplifier turns on automatically when an audio signal is detected at the inputs (front panel power switch must be ON).
      • Trigger: Uses the 12V Trigger input for external power control.
    • Speaker Outputs (Zone A/B): Binding posts for connecting speakers. Class 2 wiring is recommended.
    • Unswitched A/C Terminal: Provides AC power (400W max) for a single low-power device (e.g., tuner, CD player) but not another amplifier.
  • Safety Features: The amplifier is a Class II or double insulated electrical appliance, not requiring a safety connection to electrical earth. It includes an internal fuse for protection against fault conditions. The mains plug serves as a disconnect device and should remain readily operable.
  • Installation Guidelines:
    • Avoid placing sensitive high-gain equipment (preamplifiers, tape decks) directly above or below the unit due to strong magnetic fields that can induce hum.
    • For rack installations, it's recommended to place the amplifier(s) at the bottom of the rack and sensitive equipment at the top.
    • Recommended speaker wire gauges are provided based on run length: 16-gauge for 50' or less, 12-gauge for 50'-150', and 10-gauge for 150'-200'.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: Clean only with a dry cloth.
  • Ventilation: Do not block ventilation openings; ensure proper airflow.
  • Servicing: Refer all servicing to qualified personnel. Do not attempt to open the unit as there are no user-serviceable parts inside.
  • Fuse Replacement: The internal fuse (5 x 20mm T4A 250V) can be replaced by qualified personnel if needed.
  • Warranty: The manufacturer's warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship for two years from the original purchase date. Crutchfield extends this warranty to three years for purchases made through them. The warranty requires proof of purchase from an authorized dealer and covers failures during normal use, excluding damage from accident, misuse, abuse, neglect, mishandling, alteration, faulty installation, modification, unauthorized service, or acts of God. The customer is responsible for shipping costs for warranty claims.
