Overview

The Audiovox D1788 is a portable entertainment system featuring a 7-inch LCD monitor and an integrated DVD player with a built-in battery. This versatile unit is designed for use in various settings, including hotels, offices, homes, or vehicles, offering a compact and easy-to-install solution for on-the-go entertainment.

Function Description

The primary function of the D1788 is to play DVDs, CDs, and MP3 discs, displaying video content on its 7-inch (16:9 Aspect Ratio) Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) monitor. It supports NTSC signal systems for video output and provides audio output with a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz. The unit is equipped with a semiconductor laser for disc reading.

Usage Features

Powering the Device:

The D1788 offers flexible powering options. For indoor use, it can be powered by plugging one end of the supplied AC to DC adapter into the DC 9-12V jack on the unit and the other end into a 100-240V AC power receptacle. For in-car use, a DC power adapter can be plugged into the unit's DC jack and then into the vehicle's DC power socket.

Built-in Battery:

The device includes a long-life Li-Polymer battery for portability. Before the first use, the battery requires a minimum of 8 hours of charging. Subsequent full recharges take approximately five hours and provide power for about 2 hours of playback. The battery charges when the AC to DC adapter is connected and the player is in "Power Off" mode; a red LED indicator will turn off once fully charged. The Li-Polymer battery technology ensures high storage capacity and low degradation, meaning it doesn't suffer from "Memory Effect" and can be recharged regardless of its current charge level.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning:

When cleaning the unit, ensure it is unplugged from the power source. Use a cloth lightly dampened with water to clean the exterior. Avoid liquid or aerosol cleaners.

Disc Handling:

  • Do not use irregularly shaped discs.
  • Avoid sticking paper, tape, or glue on discs.
  • Do not expose discs to direct sunlight or heat sources.
  • Handle discs by their edges and avoid touching the surface.
  • Clean discs by wiping from the center outwards with a cleaning cloth.
  • Store discs in their cases after playing.
  • Be aware that some playback features may be intentionally fixed by software producers and may not be available.

Placement:

  • To prevent fire or electric shock, do not expose the unit to rain or moisture.
  • Place the unit on a stable surface.
  • Keep the unit away from strong magnets, heat sources, direct sunlight, and excessive dust.
  • Allow the unit to acclimatize for about an hour if moved from a cold to a warm location to prevent moisture condensation.
  • Ensure proper ventilation by not covering or blocking slots and openings.

Disassembly:

Do not attempt to disassemble the cabinet due to the risk of electric shock and laser radiation exposure. Contact qualified service personnel for repairs.

Battery Maintenance:

  • Always use the AC adapter included with the player for recharging. The battery will not charge with the car DC adapter.
  • If storing the battery for an extended period (one week or longer), fully charge it. For longer storage, recharge at least once every two months.
  • Recharge efficiency may degrade in extreme temperatures (below 50°F/10°C or above 95°F/35°C).
  • When the battery is fully discharged, recharge it immediately to maximize its lifespan.
  • Ensure the DVD player is powered off during charging.
