The Autonics BW Series is a range of single-beam area sensors designed for various industrial applications, offering reliable object detection and robust performance.
The BW Series sensors operate on a through-beam sensing method, where an emitter sends an infrared LED (850 nm modulated light) beam to a receiver. When an opaque object interrupts this beam, the sensor detects its presence. These sensors are particularly useful for detecting objects across a defined area, minimizing non-detection zones with a 20 mm optical pitch (BW20 models). They feature a long sensing distance of up to 7 meters, making them suitable for a wide range of applications.
The series offers 22 configurations, varying in the number of optics (from 4 to 48) and optical pitch (20 mm or 40 mm), allowing for detection areas from 120 mm to 940 mm. Key functions include a mutual interference prevention function, which is crucial when multiple sensors are installed closely to avoid sensing errors. This is achieved through a MASTER/SLAVE connection where one sensor acts as a master and others as slaves, utilizing a synchronous line for coordinated operation.
The sensors also incorporate a self-diagnosis function that monitors for malfunctions during normal operation. If a malfunction is detected, the control output turns OFF, and the operation indicator displays the specific state. An "Emitter OFF" function allows external systems to check sensor operation by forcibly stopping light emission, which can be used for testing or system diagnostics. Additionally, an "Optical axis misalignment alarm" provides an early warning when the front screen is contaminated, the optical axis is misaligned, or the emitter is damaged, by changing the control output and activating specific LED indicators.
