The Autonics BX Series offers a range of photoelectric sensors designed for reliable object detection in various industrial applications. These sensors are available in both terminal type and long sensing distance configurations, providing flexibility for different installation and operational requirements. The series incorporates a variety of features aimed at enhancing performance, ease of use, and durability.
The BX Series sensors are primarily designed for object detection using light-based principles. They come in three main sensing types: through-beam, retroreflective, and diffuse reflective, each suited for specific detection scenarios.
Through-beam type (BX15M-TFR, BX15M-TDT): This configuration consists of a separate emitter and receiver unit. The emitter sends a beam of light, and the receiver detects it. When an object interrupts the beam, the sensor triggers an output. This type is ideal for long sensing distances and applications where precise detection of opaque objects is required. The BX15M-TFR and BX15M-TDT models offer a sensing distance of 15m, detecting opaque materials with a minimum diameter of Ø15mm.
Retroreflective type (BX5M-MFR, BX5M-MDT, BX3M-PFR, BX3M-PDT): Retroreflective sensors combine the emitter and receiver in a single housing and require a separate reflector. The sensor emits light, which is then reflected back by the reflector to the receiver. An object passing between the sensor and the reflector interrupts the beam, triggering the output.
Diffuse reflective type (BX700-DFR, BX700-DDT): Diffuse reflective sensors also house the emitter and receiver in a single unit but do not require a separate reflector. They detect objects by sensing the light reflected directly from the object's surface. These sensors are suitable for detecting translucent or opaque materials. The BX700-DFR and BX700-DDT models have a sensing distance of 700mm, optimized for non-glossy white paper (200x200mm) as a standard target. The detection range can vary based on the target's size, surface, and gloss.
All BX Series sensors include a built-in sensitivity adjustment VR (Variable Resistor), allowing users to fine-tune the detection threshold for optimal performance in specific environments or with different target materials.
A key functional enhancement across the series is the timer function, available in models with a "-T" suffix (e.g., BX15M-TFR-T, BX5M-MFR-T). This function provides three selectable modes:
The control output options vary based on the power type.
The operation mode (Light ON or Dark ON) is selectable via a switch, providing flexibility in how the sensor responds to object detection. In Light ON mode, the output activates when light is received (or blocked in through-beam), while in Dark ON mode, the output activates when light is not received (or detected in through-beam).
The BX Series is designed with several features to simplify installation, operation, and troubleshooting.
Wide Power Supply Range: The free power type models support a universal power supply range of 24-240VAC/24-240VDC (±10%), making them highly versatile and compatible with various power systems without requiring specific power supply units. The DC power type models operate on 12-24VDC (±10%).
Self-diagnosis Function: A green LED indicator provides self-diagnosis, turning ON when the sensor is in a stable operating condition. This feature allows for quick visual confirmation of proper sensor function and helps in identifying potential issues.
Operation Indicators:
Mounting and Sensitivity Adjustment:
Cable Connections: The terminal type design allows for easy and secure wiring. The manual provides clear diagrams for connecting wires to the terminal block, emphasizing the importance of proper torque for screws (0.8N·m) and cable holder (1.0 to 1.5N·m) to ensure waterproof integrity (using round wires with a diameter of Ø6 to 10mm).
Compact Design: The sensors and their accessories (reflectors MS-2, MS-3, MS-4) are designed to be compact, facilitating installation in confined spaces. The MS-4 reflector, for instance, is recommended for mounting places that are too narrow for MS-2.
The BX Series is built for durability and long-term reliability in industrial environments.
Robust Protection Structure: All models boast an IP66 protection structure (IEC standard), indicating high resistance to dust ingress and powerful water jets. This makes them suitable for use in harsh industrial environments where exposure to dust, moisture, or washdowns is common.
High Durability:
Environmental Tolerance:
Noise Resistance: The sensors are equipped with noise resistance of ±1,000V (square wave, pulse width: 1µs) from a noise simulator, minimizing interference from electrical noise common in industrial settings.
Dielectric Strength and Insulation Resistance: A dielectric strength of 1500VAC 50/60Hz for 1 minute and insulation resistance of minimum 20MΩ (at 500VDC megger) ensure electrical safety and prevent leakage currents. The "Double or strong insulation" mark indicates enhanced electrical isolation.
Material Durability: The case and lens cover are made of PC (Polycarbonate), and the sensing part is also PC, materials known for their durability and resistance to environmental factors.
The Autonics BX Series provides a comprehensive solution for photoelectric sensing, combining advanced detection capabilities with robust construction and user-friendly features for reliable performance in diverse industrial applications.
