Why won't my AVANT 400 engine crank?
    • R
      Raymond CollinsJul 28, 2025
If your AVANT Compact Loader engine won't crank, it could be due to several reasons: the main switch being off (turn it on), a discharged battery (check and charge it), a blown fuse (check fuses, and contact service if it blows again), or poorly connected battery cables (check, clean, and retighten them if necessary).

If your AVANT Compact Loader engine is overheating, possible causes include a clogged radiator (clean the radiator and fan from the engine side), low coolant level (add coolant), or a leaking cooling system (check the coolant pressure reservoir cap for tightness and inspect the cooling system, hoses, and connections).

An overheating hydraulic system in your AVANT Compact Loader could be caused by several factors: * Low hydraulic oil level: Check and refill the oil. * Clogged oil cooler: Clean the cooler and fan. * Faulty fan: Check and clean the fan; repair if necessary. * Restricted hydraulic oil flow: Ensure the auxiliary hydraulics valve is completely open when using high flow attachments and adjust the lever locking plate if necessary. * Overloaded hydraulic system: Use the attachment at a lower engine rpm, use with 1-pump setting, and check the attachment for faults.

If your AVANT Compact Loader engine cranks but doesn't start, or starts and stops immediately, consider these possibilities: * No fuel or wrong type of fuel: Fill the tank with the correct type of fuel. * Engine not getting fuel, clogged fuel filter or fuel line: Make sure fuel hoses and the fuel filter are clean and not frozen. Replace the fuel filter and clean the fuel lines. * Auxiliary hydraulics control lever is in locking position: Turn the lever to the center (neutral) position. * Battery discharged or damaged: Jump start with another battery, then charge or replace the battery if damaged. * Cold ambient temperature: Hold the ignition key in the glow position for a longer period.
