Overview

This document provides the instruction manual for Avanti water dispensers, specifically models WD50 and WDT51. It covers registration, safety, installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and warranty information.

Function Description

The Avanti water dispenser is designed to provide both cold and hot water on demand from a standard 5-gallon water bottle. It features a cooling system for cold water and a heating system for hot water, making it suitable for home or business use. The unit includes a storage compartment, a removable drip tray, and adjustable feet for stability.

Important Technical Specifications

The manual does not explicitly list detailed technical specifications such as power consumption, cooling capacity, or heating capacity in a dedicated section. However, it provides operational temperature ranges and component descriptions:

  • Hot Water Temperature: Approximately 80°C (176°F)
  • Cold Water Temperature: Approximately 5-7°C (41-45°F)
  • Thermostats:
    • 88°C Thermostat Upper (for hot water)
    • 95°C Thermostat Lower (for hot water)
    • Cooling Thermostat (for cold water)
  • Indicators:
    • Heating Indicator (Red)
    • Power Indicator (Yellow)
    • Cooling Indicator (Green)
  • Switches:
    • Cooling Switch (Green)
    • Heating Switch (Red)
  • Water Tanks: Cold water tank and hot water tank. The initial fill for flushing is described as "almost 3/4 of a gallon" for the water tank.
  • Compressor: The unit utilizes a compressor for cooling.
  • Power Cord: Standard power cord for electrical connection.
  • Safety Features: Hot water faucet includes a child-safety guard attachment. Overload protector for the compressor.

Usage Features

Installation:

  • Placement: Place on a strong, level floor, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Allow 2 inches of space from the wall for proper air circulation. Not recommended for outdoor use or areas below freezing (32°F).
  • Initial Setup:
    1. Remove packing.
    2. Let stand upright for approximately 2 hours before plugging in.
    3. Flush the reservoir and water lines:
      • Fill water tank with tap water (approx. 3/4 gallon) and wait 5 minutes.
      • Press hot water faucet until water comes out.
      • Plug into electrical outlet. All three indicator lights will illuminate.
      • Wait for the hot water indicator light to go off (approx. 10 minutes), then the cold water indicator light to go off (approx. 5 minutes).
      • Unplug the dispenser.
      • Drain water from faucets one at a time.
      • Drain any remaining water from tanks by opening the "hot" and "cold" drain caps on the back.
      • Close drain caps and ensure faucets are off.
    4. Place a 5-gallon water bottle on the water intake, allow water to settle for approx. 1 minute.
    5. Turn on water faucets to ensure flow.
    6. Plug dispenser into electrical outlet. The unit is now ready for use.
  • Sanitization Note: If a taste problem develops, add one tablespoon of baking soda to tap water, fill the tank, and repeat the flushing process, but turn the hot water switch "OFF" to avoid residues.

Operation:

  • Replacing Water Bottles:
    1. Wipe the neck of the new bottle with a clean cloth.
    2. Remove the cap.
    3. Carefully lift the bottle (approx. 40 lbs.) using legs, not your back. Do not place hands in the bottle opening.
    4. Insert the bottle onto the water intake over the reservoir opening until it settles properly.
    5. Wipe off any splashed water.
  • Cold Water Control: Turn the cold-water switch (12) on. The green indicator light will illuminate, and cooling will begin. The light turns off automatically when the desired temperature is reached.
  • Hot Water Control: Turn the hot water switch (13) on. The red indicator light will illuminate, and heating will begin. The light turns off automatically when the desired temperature (approx. 80°C / 176°F) is reached. The red light will re-illuminate when the temperature drops and heating restarts.
  • Child-Safety Guard (Hot Water Faucet): To dispense hot water, squeeze the safety valve on the back of the handle and tilt the faucet handle down. Continue holding the safety valve while pushing down the faucet handle. Ensure the handle returns to its original position with a click when released.
  • Cup Dispenser (Optional): A cup dispenser can be installed using mounting holes on the right side panel. It can be ordered separately.

Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a troubleshooting guide for common issues:

  • Water dispenser does not operate: Check if plugged in, circuit breaker tripped/fuse blown.
  • Water cooler is not cold enough: Check if cold switch is ON, ensure proper clearances, room temperature.
  • Water dispenser hot water is not hot enough: Check if hot switch is ON, room temperature.
  • Compressor turns on and off frequently: Room temperature too hot, temperature control not set correctly, improper clearances.
  • Vibrations/Noise: Check if level. Rattling noise from refrigerant flow is normal. Gurgling sounds from refrigerant flow are normal. Popping/crackling from internal wall expansion/contraction is normal.

Maintenance Features

  • Reservoir Cleaning: Wash the inside of the reservoir with a solution of warm water and about 2 tablespoons of baking soda per quart of water.
  • Drip Tray and Faucets: Clean with mild detergent and warm water.
  • Condenser Coils: Inspect the coils on the back of the dispenser regularly (once a month). Vacuum accumulated dust or clean with a hard brush.
  • Taking Dispenser Out of Service:
    1. Unplug the power cord.
    2. Drain water through the faucets.
    3. Turn the hot water switch to "OFF".
    4. Drain water from the tanks by removing the plugs from the back. (Caution: Hot water from the back drain may be scalding).
    5. When transporting, keep the unit upright if possible and cover it with a blanket.
