Overview

This document is the user manual for the Bafang DP C231.CAN display, an electronic component for electric bicycles (pedelecs).

Function Description

The Bafang DP C231.CAN display serves as the central interface for controlling and monitoring a pedelec system. It provides real-time information about riding parameters, battery status, and system settings. Key functions include:

  • Speed Display: Shows current speed, top speed, and average speed, with the ability to switch between kilometers and miles.
  • Battery Capacity Indicator: Displays the battery's charge level in real-time. It shows 100% when fully charged and flashes when the charge drops below 5%, indicating an immediate need for charging.
  • Support Level Selection: Allows the user to select different levels of motor assistance, typically ranging from 0 (no support) to 5 (highest support).
  • Headlights/Backlighting Control: Enables activation and deactivation of headlights and taillights, and adjustment of backlight brightness. It also features an automatic sensor function for lighting in dark environments, which can be overridden by manual control.
  • Trip Information: Provides various trip data, including daily kilometers (TRIP), total kilometers (ODO), range, output power, energy consumption (CALORIES, if a torque sensor is fitted), and travel time (TIME).
  • Walk Assistance: A feature that assists the user when walking alongside the pedelec, moving it at approximately 6 km/h. This function can only be activated when the pedelec is stationary.
  • USB Charging Function: Allows charging of external USB devices (max. 5V, 500mA) when connected to the display.
  • Bluetooth Communication: Enables connection to the Bafang Go APP for enhanced functionality and can also connect to SIGMA heartbeat bands to display heart rate data and send data to a mobile phone.
  • Maintenance Reminder ("Service"): Displays a "Service" notification after a certain mileage (e.g., 5000 km) or a specific number of battery charge cycles (e.g., 100 cycles), reminding the user about maintenance. This function can be configured in the display settings.
  • Error Code Display: Shows error codes if the pedelec system detects a fault, aiding in troubleshooting.

If no button is pressed for 20 seconds, the display automatically returns to the main screen without saving changes.

Maintenance Features

The manual emphasizes several maintenance and care guidelines:

  • Handling: Use the product with care. Avoid using thinners or other solvents for cleaning, as these can damage surfaces. Do not clean the display with a steam jet, high-pressure cleaner, or water hose.
  • Water Exposure: While the product is waterproof (IP65), it is highly recommended to avoid submerging the display under water.
  • Troubleshooting: If error information from the display cannot be corrected using the provided instructions, contact the retailer. The manual includes a detailed "Error Code Definition" section to help diagnose issues. For example, error code 04 indicates a throttle fault, and error code 10 suggests the engine temperature has reached its maximum protection value.
  • Software Updates: The QR code label attached to the display cable contains information crucial for future software updates, so it should be kept.
  • Warranty: Warranty/guarantee does not cover wear and normal use and aging of the device.
