Battery Powered Photoelectric Smoke Alarm BAT
User’s Handbook 39 Status: 07-2008
Mounting
location/
method
Description
Ceiling Observe a spacing of 30 cm. The smoke alarm
should be mounted at a distance of 30 cm from
walls and corners. If a fire breaks out, this will slow
down the movement of smoke and set off the alarm
only when the concentration of smoke is particularly
dense. Locations close to ceiling lights (e.g.
halogen systems, fluorescent lamps), particularly
those with dimmer switches, should also be
avoided.
Roof In areas with a sloping or pitched roof, the smoke
alarm should be mounted 90 cm from the highest
point, since no movement of air takes place at the
top of the slope/apex and the detection of smoke
would be delayed.
NOTE: Mounting to a roof beam is ideal.
