Quick Start Guide
110 VCO/VCF/VCA
Legendary Analog VCO/VCF/VCA
Module for Eurorack
Controls
(1) PW MOD – Accepts a voltage from another module
to control the pulse width. When a jack is inserted the
MOD MANUAL control acts as a MOD input level control.
(2) VCO OUT – Send the VCO signal to another source via
3.5 mm TS cable.
(3) WAVEFORM – Select triangle, sawtooth or pulse
waveforms for the VCO.
(4) MOD MANUAL – Sets the ratio between the upper and
lower portions of the pulse wave.
(5) RES – Boosts the resonance frequencies selected with the
CUTOFF FREQ slider, potentially causing VCF oscillation.
(6) CUTOFF FREQ – Adjusts the cuto frequency of the
low-pass lter.
(7) RANGE – Sets the pitch range of the VCO in octave steps.
(8) PITCH – Fine tunes the pitch.
(9) VCF/VCA SIG IN – Connect incoming signals via 3.5 mm
TS cables.
(10) SIG LEVEL – Adjust the level of the signals connected to
the inputs.
(11) VCA OUT – Sends the VCA signal via 3.5 mm TS cable with
either high or low signal levels.
(12) INITIAL GAIN – Adjusts the initial gain level when there is
no control voltage present. The adjacent LEDs will light to
indicate signal (green) and overload (red).
(13) MOD LEVEL – Adjusts the level of the signal connected to
the associated MOD IN jack.
(14) MOD IN – Accepts voltages that control or modulate the
VCO, VCF or VCA.
Power Connection
The module comes with the required power cable for connecting
to a standard Eurorack power supply system. Follow these
steps to connect power to the module. It is easier to make
these connections before the module has been mounted into
a rack case.
1. Turn the power supply or rack case power o and
disconnect the power cable.
2. Insert the 16-pin connector on the power cable into the
socket on the power supply or rack case. The connector has
a tab that will align with the gap in the socket, so it cannot
be inserted incorrectly. If the power supply does not have
a keyed socket, be sure to orient pin 1 (-12 V) with the red
stripe on the cable.
3. Insert the 10-pin connector into the socket on the back of
the module. The connector has a tab that will align with the
socket for correct orientation.
4. After both ends of the power cable have been securely
attached, you may mount the module in a case and turn on
the power supply.

Overview

The Behringer 110 VCO/VCF/VCA is a legendary analog module designed for Eurorack systems, combining a Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO), Voltage Controlled Filter (VCF), and Voltage Controlled Amplifier (VCA) in a single unit. This module offers a comprehensive set of controls and connectivity for sound synthesis, making it a versatile addition to any modular setup.

Function Description

The module integrates three core components of subtractive synthesis:

  • Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO): Generates various waveforms (triangle, sawtooth, pulse) with adjustable pitch and pulse width. It can be modulated by external control voltages for dynamic sound creation.
  • Voltage Controlled Filter (VCF): A low-pass filter that shapes the timbre of the sound by adjusting its cutoff frequency and resonance. It can also be modulated by external control voltages.
  • Voltage Controlled Amplifier (VCA): Controls the amplitude (volume) of the sound, allowing for dynamic expression and envelope shaping. It features initial gain adjustment and can be modulated by external control voltages.

Usage Features

The Behringer 110 offers a highly interactive and flexible user experience through its array of controls and patch points:

  • PW MOD (Pulse Width Modulation): This jack accepts a voltage from another module to control the pulse width of the VCO's pulse waveform. When a jack is inserted, the MOD MANUAL control acts as a MOD input level control, allowing for dynamic timbral changes.
  • VCO OUT: Sends the VCO signal to another source via a 3.5 mm TS cable, enabling complex signal routing within a modular system.
  • WAVEFORM: A switch to select between triangle, sawtooth, or pulse waveforms for the VCO, providing fundamental sonic building blocks.
  • MOD MANUAL: This control sets the ratio between the upper and lower portions of the pulse wave, allowing for manual adjustment of the pulse width when no external modulation is applied.
  • RES (Resonance): Boosts the resonance frequencies selected with the CUTOFF FREQ slider. Pushing the resonance too high can lead to VCF oscillation, creating self-generating tones.
  • CUTOFF FREQ (Cutoff Frequency): Adjusts the cutoff frequency of the low-pass filter, allowing users to shape the brightness and character of the sound.
  • RANGE: Sets the pitch range of the VCO in octave steps (32', 16', 8', 4', 2'), providing broad control over the oscillator's fundamental frequency.
  • PITCH: A fine-tuning control for the VCO's pitch, allowing for precise adjustment within the selected octave range.
  • VCF/VCA SIG IN: Connects incoming signals via 3.5 mm TS cables to the VCF and VCA sections for processing. This allows external audio or other module outputs to be filtered and amplified.
  • SIG LEVEL: Adjusts the level of the signals connected to the VCF/VCA inputs, ensuring proper gain staging.
  • VCA OUT: Sends the VCA signal via a 3.5 mm TS cable with either high or low signal levels, offering flexibility for subsequent modules in the signal chain.
  • INITIAL GAIN: Adjusts the initial gain level of the VCA when no control voltage is present. Adjacent LEDs indicate signal (green) and overload (red), helping users monitor and prevent clipping.
  • MOD LEVEL: Adjusts the level of the signal connected to the associated MOD IN jack for VCO, VCF, or VCA, providing precise control over modulation depth.
  • MOD IN: Accepts voltages that control or modulate the VCO, VCF, or VCA, enabling dynamic and expressive sound design through external control sources like LFOs, envelopes, or sequencers.

Power Connection:

The module comes with a power cable for connecting to a standard Eurorack power supply system. The connection process is straightforward:

  1. Turn off the power supply or rack case and disconnect the power cable.
  2. Insert the 16-pin connector on the power cable into the socket on the power supply or rack case. The connector is keyed to prevent incorrect insertion. If the power supply lacks a keyed socket, ensure pin 1 (-12 V) aligns with the red stripe on the cable.
  3. Insert the 10-pin connector into the socket on the back of the module. This connector is also keyed for correct orientation.
  4. Once both ends of the power cable are securely attached, the module can be mounted in a case, and the power supply can be turned on.

Maintenance Features

  • Installation: The module includes necessary screws for mounting in a Eurorack case. It's recommended to connect the power cable before mounting. The design accommodates various Eurorack rail types, including those with fixed holes or sliding threaded plates, allowing for precise alignment during installation.
  • Durability: Built to Eurorack standards, the module is designed for robust performance within a modular synthesis environment.
  • Warranty: Music Tribe provides a limited warranty for its products. Users can find detailed terms and conditions, along with additional information, on the musictribe.com/warranty website.
