This document is a user manual for the Belling Built-In 70cm oven, model BEL BI703MFC, providing detailed instructions on its operation, maintenance, and safety.
Function Description
The Belling Built-In 70cm oven is a dual-cavity electric oven designed for various cooking functions. It features a top oven and a main oven, each with independent controls for function selection and temperature. The oven is equipped with a clock/programmer for setting the time of day, minute minder, semi-automatic, and fully-automatic cooking programs.
Top Oven Functions:
- Oven Function Selector Switch: Used to select the desired oven function.
- Oven Lamp: Can be operated independently for cleaning or maintenance, and also illuminates when any oven function is selected.
- Single Grill: Heats the central area under the grill, ideal for toasting and grilling meats like sausages, chops, and steaks. Designed for use with the door open. Food should be placed in the middle of the grill pan.
- Dual Grill: Operates both inner and outer grill elements, suitable for toasting and grilling thinner meats such as bacon. Designed for use with the door open. Food should be placed in the middle part of the grill pan.
- Conventional Cooking: Utilizes both top and bottom elements for traditional cooking, ideal for roasting.
- Top Oven Temperature Control: Used to select the desired oven temperature.
Main Oven Functions:
- Oven Function Selector Switch: Used to select the desired oven function.
- Defrost and Dough Proving: Gently defrosts frozen foods or assists dough in rising faster than at room temperature.
- Fanned Oven: Provides an even temperature throughout the oven, making it suitable for batch baking or cooking foods on multiple levels simultaneously.
- Conventional Cooking: Top and bottom elements work together for traditional cooking and roasting.
- Fan Assist: Combines the fan with both top and bottom heating elements for even heat distribution. Dishes are lightly browned on the outside and moist on the inside. Suitable for grilling or roasting large pieces of meat at higher temperatures.
- Pizza Function: Activates the fan element and circulation fan to cook pizza or quiche, with the base element browning the bottom.
- Base Heat: Provides additional base heat for browning dishes like pizza, pies, and quiche, typically used towards the end of the cooking process.
- Top Heat: Ideal for browning the tops of food, less intense than the grilling function. Provides additional browning for dishes like lasagna or cauliflower cheese, used towards the end of the cooking cycle.
- Fanned Grill: The fan circulates air around the food, ideal for thinner foods such as bacon, fish, and gammon steaks, requiring less turning. Designed for use with the oven door closed.
- Dual Grill: Operates inner and outer grill elements, useful for toasting and grilling thinner meats like bacon. Designed for use with the oven door open. Food should be placed in the middle part of the grill pan.
- Main Oven Temperature Control: Used to select the desired oven temperature.

Maintenance Features
- Cleaning:
- General Cleaning: Always switch off the appliance and allow it to cool down before cleaning. Use warm, soapy water and a clean, wrung-out cloth. Wipe with a damp cloth and dry with a soft cloth.
- Avoid: Harsh abrasive cleaners, sharp metal scrapers, steam cleaners, undiluted bleaches, chloride products, wire wool, abrasive cleaners, nylon pads.
- Food Spillages: Clean food spillages (e.g., vinegar, fruit juices, salt) as soon as possible to prevent damage to metal or paintwork.
- Control Panel: Take extra care when cleaning over symbols on the control panel to prevent fading.
- Oven Door Glass: Do not use metal scrapers to clean the oven door glass.
- Catalytic Oven Liners (If fitted): Light grey soft-touch enamel panels on the sides of the oven that are partly self-cleaning. They work best when the oven is heated above 200°C. For cooking below this temperature, occasionally wipe with a lint-free cloth and hot soapy water, then allow to dry and heat the oven at 200°C for about one hour to ensure effectiveness. Do not use harsh abrasives or chemicals on these liners. Both lower and upper cavities of this model have catalytic liners.
- Oven Door Disassembly (Optional): The door components can be disassembled for cleaning. This involves depressing securing tabs on the plastic inlay cover, removing the inlay cover, and carefully removing inner glass panels. Reassembly requires reversing these steps, ensuring glass is re-installed correctly.
- Warnings: Do not forcibly pull on the oven door to avoid glass shattering. Do not touch hinge springs to prevent personal injury. Do not lift or carry the oven door by the handle.
- Bulb Replacement:
- Procedure: Disconnect power from the mains. Unscrew the glass lamp cover counter-clockwise (it may be stiff). Replace the bulb with a new one of the same type (25-40W/220V-240V, T300°C halogen lamps). Screw the glass lamp cover back in place.
- Regular Cleaning Importance: Regular cleaning is crucial as a build-up of fat can affect performance, cause damage, and potentially invalidate the guarantee.
- Hot Surfaces: The appliance becomes hot during use. Avoid touching heating elements and accessible parts. Young children should be kept away.
- Children: Children shall not play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance should not be performed by children without supervision.
- Cleaning Materials: Do not use harsh abrasive cleaners or sharp metal scrapers on oven door glass. Do not use a steam cleaner.
- Lamp Replacement: Ensure the appliance is switched off before replacing the lamp to avoid electric shock.
- Oven Base: Never place items directly on the oven base or cover it with foil, as this can cause overheating.
- First Use Smell: When first switched on, the oven may emit an unpleasant smell. Clean oil impurities by using the conventional or fanned cooking function at 250°C for 90 minutes. Ensure the room is well ventilated.
- Grill Use: Do not allow children near the oven when it is operating, especially when the grill is on.
- Electrical Disconnection: Means for disconnection must be incorporated into the fixed wiring in accordance with wiring specifications. An all-pole isolation switch with a minimum contact separation of 3mm must be incorporated.
- Supply Cord: If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or similarly qualified persons.
- Flexible Cable: Connection should be made with a suitable flexible cable with a minimum temperature rating of 70°C.
- Sharp Edges: Wear protective gloves during installation and moving the appliance.
- Cooling Down: Always switch off the appliance and allow it to cool down before cleaning.
- Installation: Must not be installed behind a decorative door to avoid overheating.
- Supervision: The cooking process must be supervised continuously, especially short-term cooking.
- Fire Safety: In case of an electrical fire, pull the plug or switch off power at the fuse box. Smother with a fire blanket or dry powder/carbon dioxide extinguisher. Never use water on electrical or cooking oil fires.
- Servicing: Only by authorized personnel.
- Glass Panels: Do not operate without glass panels correctly fitted.
- Modification: Do not modify outer panels.
- Earthing: The appliance must be earthed.
- Mains Disconnection: Never disconnect from the mains supply during use.
- Cooling Fan: The cooling fan (if fitted) is designed to run on after the control knob is switched off.
