Separation
Separation of the lubricating oil is not required for
fuel gas operation, but available on request.
It is normally only need for refilling of oil and no
separation. However the engines are equipped
with connections for this purpose.
Sizing of the lubricating oil separator
The amount of sludge to be removed from the lubr.
oil is dependant on the engine output and the fuel
used.
Minimum separator booster pump capacity:
Q = k x P (l/h)
where
k = Size factor according to fuel
P = Maximum Continuous Rating in kW
Solid bowl separators, which are cleaned manually,
can be used only when the fuel is gas oil or marine
diesel oil (MDO).
If “intermittent separation” is used, the booster
pump capacity should be doubled for 2 engines,
tripled for 3 engines etc.
The recommended separation temperature is about
95°C and must be kept constant (±2°C).
