Dierent types of thermometers measure body temperature dierently. The resulting temperature
varies depending on the part of the body where the measurement is taken. Temperatures in various
parts of the body can vary up to two degrees Fahrenheit.
Measurement Location Normal Temperature Range
Forehead temperature 96.4° F to 99.7° F (35.8° C to 37.6° C)
Ear temperature 96.8° F to 100.0° F (36.0° C to 37.8° C)
Oral temperature 96.8° F to 99.3° F (36.0° C to 37.4° C)
Rectal temperature 97.3° F to 100.0 ° F (36.3° C to 37.8° C)
NOTE: Temperatures measured with dierent thermometers cannot be compared. You should tell
your doctor or keep in mind if you are measuring for yourself what type of thermometer you use and
in which part of the body.
