Overview

This document is the user manual for the BIOBASE Vertical Laminar Flow Cabinet models BBS-V1300 and BBS-V1800.

Function Description

The BIOBASE Vertical Laminar Flow Cabinet (LAF) is a workbench or similar enclosure designed to create a particle-free working environment. Its primary function is sample protection by taking air through a filtration system and exhausting it across a work surface in a laminar or unidirectional air stream. The cabinet is enclosed on the sides and maintained under constant positive pressure to prevent the infiltration of contaminated room air. It is used to protect experimental materials and create a local high-cleanliness air environment, ensuring the accuracy of experiments within the operating area. However, it does not provide protection for the environment or operators.

The cabinet features a driving system for the front window, consisting of a tubular motor, the front window itself, a hauling mechanism, and a limit switch. The air filtration system is a core component, comprising a blower and a HEPA filter system. This system transfers filtered air to the work area, ensuring airflow velocity and maintaining Class 100 cleanliness. For disinfection, a UV lamp is located at the top of the work zone, emitting a wavelength of 253.7nm to effectively disinfect the entire area. Illumination is provided by an LED light, ensuring the standard requirement for average illumination is met.

Usage Features

Installation: The cabinet should be placed in a protected area, away from doors, windows, and air conditioning outlets to prevent airflow impact. A minimum 300mm gap must be maintained on the side and back for clean operation and inspection. The base stand is assembled with the main body using hexagon socket head cap screws. The foot height can be adjusted; clockwise rotation lowers the feet, allowing movement, while anticlockwise rotation raises them, fixing the cabinet in place. A gas (water) tap can be installed, with its mouth inside the operating zone. After installation, verify voltage and frequency match the nameplate, and check fan motor, fluorescent lamp, UV lamp, screen buttons, and socket functionality.

Control Panel: The control panel features soft-touch buttons and an LCD display.

  • Power Button: Switches the machine between suspension and working modes.
  • Blower Button: Controls blower working status. It has a memory function for the last used gear. (Does not work when the front window is fully closed).
  • Fluorescent Lamp Button: Controls the fluorescent lamp.
  • UV Lamp Button: Controls the UV lamp. This function is interlocked with the blower, fluorescent lamp, and front window; it will not work if the fluorescent lamp, blower, or front window are open.
  • Socket Button: Controls the power status of the waterproof socket.
  • Glass Window Up/Down Buttons: Control the motorized front window. Pressing causes a sound; holding moves the window continuously.
  • Air Volume Increase/Decrease Buttons: Adjust blower speed. Each press changes the gear and rings a buzzer. These buttons also adjust UV lamp timing (10-90 minutes).
  • LCD Display: Shows blower wind speed strength, current wind state, time, UV lamp working time, and HEPA filter working time.
  • Clock Adjustment: In standby mode, press the light button continuously to enter clock setting mode.
  • UV Lamp Timing: In standby mode, when the front window is lowered to a minimum, press the UV lamp control button to open the UV lamp. Timing can be adjusted using the air volume buttons.

Waterproof Socket: Located in the operating area, it provides power to equipment. The total load of sockets should not exceed 500W. The socket is waterproof only when its front cover is down.

Normal Operation Notice:

  • Ensure correct and stable input voltage, with the main power socket's rated load higher than cabinet consumption. The plug must be well grounded.
  • When moving multiple samples, move low-polluting samples to high-polluting samples slowly and stably.
  • Item weight in the cabinet should not exceed 23Kg/25×25cm².
  • Avoid vibration from equipment like centrifuges or vortex oscillators, as this can cause contamination from the HEPA filter.
  • Do not use open flames, as they disrupt airflow. Infrared sterilizers are recommended for sterilization.
  • HEPA filter life: Replace when resistance increases to the point where speed requirements cannot be met. Used filters should be processed as medical waste.
  • Do not remove or loosen screws of parts.
  • Maximum storage period is one year; performance tests are required if stored longer.
  • UV lamp function is only available when the front window is fully closed.
  • Sterilize the cabinet with the UV lamp for at least 30 minutes with the window fully closed before any experiment.
  • For eye and skin safety, people should leave the room during UV sterilization.
  • UV lamp should be checked regularly and replaced after 600 hours of total working time or if intensity is low.
  • Move the front window to a suitable height and turn on the fan. Start experiments after the fan has worked for at least 30 minutes.
  • For operating safety, place experiment materials inside the cabinet before starting.
  • After experiments, fully close the front window and sterilize with the UV lamp for 30 minutes before turning off the cabinet.
