Overview

The Multi Bio RS-24 is a programmable rotator designed for mixing biological solutions, cell suspensions, magnetic particles conjugated with specific antibodies, and for the incubation and cultivation of biological liquids according to operator-set programs. It is applicable in all areas of laboratory research in biotechnology, microbiology, chemistry, and medicine.

Function Description:

The Multi Bio RS-24 offers three primary types of platform motion, controlled by a microprocessor protocol:

  1. Orbital Rotational Motion: This is a 360° rotation of the platform. Users can set the speed from 1 to 100 rpm and the duration from 0 to 250 seconds, or choose non-stop operation.
  2. Reciprocal Motion: In this mode, the direction of the platform's rotational motion changes alternately within a set segment. The turning angle can be set from 1° to 90°, and the duration from 0 to 250 seconds, or non-stop.
  3. Vibro Motion: This involves a small turning angle of the platform (0-5°) for a short period (1-5 seconds) at the borders of the reciprocal motion segment. It is only available when reciprocal motion is active.
  4. Pause Duration: When vibro motion is off (turning angle set to zero), a temporary platform stop (1-5 seconds) can be set at the borders of the reciprocal motion segment. This is also only available when reciprocal motion is active.

The device allows for the creation of programs that include a single type of mixing motion or cyclically alternate between different mixing motions. The working period can be set from 1 minute to 24 hours, or for non-stop operation. The Multi Bio RS-24 features a miniature and elegant BioForm design with a user-friendly interface, allowing for program changes during operation and simultaneous control over different steps of the mixing protocol. It is particularly useful for researchers in molecular and cell biology and biodiagnostics technology involving magnetic particles, where specific hydrodynamic shifts are crucial.

Optional Accessories and Platforms:

The device supports various platforms for different tube sizes and capacities:

  • PRS-5/12 platform: Capacity 5/12, max. 50/2-15 ml tube volume, 20-30/10-16 mm tube diameter. (BS-010117-HK)

  • PRSC-10 platform: Capacity 10, 50 ml tube volume, 20-30 mm tube diameter. (BS-010117-JK)
  • PRS-1DP platform: Platform for microplates and racks for tall tubes 0.5 and 1 ml (e.g., Thermo 3741MTX, 3742MTX, 3744MTX). (BS-010149-DK)
  • PRS-26 platform (replacement part): Capacity 26, from 2 to 15 ml tube volume, 10-16 mm tube diameter. (BS-010117-GK)

Note: PRS platforms are equipped with universal rubber clamps for different size tube fixation, while PRSC platforms have metal clamps suitable for holding heavier solutions (e.g., soil, sand).

  • Rotation: Full load, up to 450 g.
  • Reciprocal Rotation:
    • 26 Microtube type: Up to 100 g. for platform with rubber clamps; or 200 g. for platform with metal clamps.
    • 8-15 ml Falcon tubes, 2-50 ml Falcon tubes.
  • Vibro Motion: Microtube type tubes only, up to 100 g.

Usage Features:

  • Unpacking and Setup: Remove packing materials carefully and retain for future use. Place the unit on a horizontal, even working surface. Plug the external power supply unit into the 12V socket at the rear.
  • Platform Replacement: Unscrew two fixing screws, replace the platform, and secure the new platform tightly with the screws.
  • Loading Samples: Arrange tubes symmetrically to the rotation axis. Microtubes should be placed up to the end; vacutainers and tubes with caps should be half-size.
  • Program Setting: Use the "Select" key to choose parameters and the "Up/Down" keys to set values. Holding a key for more than 2 seconds accelerates numerical changes. The microprocessor automatically saves the last parameter changes as the working program. The countdown timer controls operation time, settable from 1 minute to 24 hours.
  • Starting/Stopping Operation: Press the "Run/Stop" key to start or stop the program. If no operation time is set (timer shows 0:00), the rotator operates continuously until "Run/Stop" is pressed again. If a time is set, the platform stops after the time expires, displaying "STOP" and emitting a sound signal (press "Run/Stop" to silence). Pressing "Run/Stop" again repeats the set program.
  • Stopping During Operation: The rotator can be stopped at any time by pressing "Run/Stop." The platform will stop in a horizontal position. Pressing "Run/Stop" again restarts the program from the beginning.
  • Step Motor: A step motor is used, allowing brief manual stopping of the platform without damaging mechanical parts. If the platform is manually stopped, the program does not halt, and motion resumes automatically once the platform is released.
  • Power Off: Disconnect the external power supply unit from the electric circuit to turn off the unit.
  • Vibro Motion Considerations: When working in vibro motion mode for long periods non-stop with rubber clamp platforms, choose tubes not longer than 7 cm from cap to bottom. For "Hard Vibro" mode, set reciprocal motion turning angle to 90° and vibro motion angle to 1°.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Maintenance: If the unit requires maintenance, disconnect it from the mains and contact Biosan or a local Biosan representative.
  • Repair Operations: All maintenance and repair operations must be performed only by qualified and specially trained personnel.
  • Cleaning and Decontamination: Standard ethanol (75%) or other cleaning agents recommended for laboratory equipment can be used for cleaning and decontamination.
