Failure to do so will lead to harmful, toxic fumes from the melted conformal coating
being released during the soldering process. Be careful not to remove the PCB’s green
solder mask around the resistor. It acts as an insulator shielding sensitive copper
conductors below it. If a copper color is visible after scraping, you have scraped off the
solder mask and risk inadvertently soldering to the wrong copper conductors. Doing so
may result in permanent damage.
