use of test equipment

testing
must often
be
performed
where
exposed
high voltage
is
present.
An
eleetrieal
shock

of eurrent
to
pass
through the
heart
will stop
most
human heartbeats.
Voltage
as
low as
35
volts

ae rms
should
be eonsidered
dangerous and
hazardous sinee
it
ean
produee
a
lethal
eument
under
eertain
eonditions.
Higher
voltage
poses
an
even
greater
threat
beeause
sueh
voltage
ean
more easily
produee
a
iethal eurrent.
Your normal
work
habits should
inelude all
aeeepted
praetiees
thCt
will
prevent
eontaet
with
exposed
high voltage,
and
that
will
steer eurrent
away
from
your
nealt
in
ease of aeeidental
eontaet
with a
high
voltage.
You
will
signifi-
eantly
reduee the
risk
faetor if
you
know and
observe
the
following
safety
preeautions:
1, High
voltage up to 1r400
volts
is
present
when
servieing
this
oseilloseope.
Observe
all
high voltage
preeautions
when the
unit
is operating
with
the
ease
removed.
Remember
that
a
high
voltage
eharge
may be retained
indefinitely,
espeeially
at
the
CRT
soeket
and
anode
eap.
-Discharge
high voltage
eapaeitors
with
a
grounded
test
lead
after
removing
power.
2.
Dontt
expose
high
voltage
needlessly.
Remove
housings and
eovers
only
when
neees-
sary.
Turn
off
equipment
while
making
test eonneetions
in
high-voltage
eireuits.
Diseharge
high-voltage eapaeitors
after
removing
power.
3. If
possible,
familiarize
yourself
with
the
equipment
being
tested
and the
loeation
of
its
high voltage
points.
However,
remember
that
high voltage
may appear
at
unexpeeted
points
in defeetive
equipment.
4.
Use
an
insulated floor
material or a
large,
insulated
floor
mat to stand
on,
and an
insulated
work
surfaee on whieh
to
plaee
equipment;
and
make
eertain sueh
surfaees
are
not
damp
or wet.
5. Use the
time-proven
rfone
hand in the
poeketn
teehnique
while
handling an
instrument
probe.
Be
partieularly
eareful
to
avoid
eontaeting
a
nearby
metal
objeet
that eould
provide
a
good ground
return
path.
6.
When using the oseilloseope, the
ground
wire
of the
3-wire
ae
power
plug
pla_ees
the
ehassis
and
housing of
the
oseillos-eope
at
earth
ground.
Do
not attempt
to
defeat the
ground
wire eonneetion or
float the oseilloseope;
to do so
may
pose
a
great
safety
hazard.

tip
portion.

powered
equipment,
remember
that ae
line
voltage
is usually
present
on some
power
input eireuits sueh as
the
on-off
switeh,
fuses,
power
transformer,

off.
