Overview

This document serves as the owner's manual for an outdoor gas firebowl, providing essential information for its safe installation, operation, and maintenance. The firebowl is designed exclusively for outdoor use with propane gas cylinders, which are sold separately. It is crucial to adhere strictly to the instructions to prevent injury, property damage, fire, or explosion.

Function Description:

The device is an outdoor gas firebowl, intended to provide ambient heat and a decorative flame using propane gas. It features a burner system designed to ignite and sustain a flame, with lava rocks or fire glass acting as a medium to enhance the visual effect and distribute heat. The firebowl includes a control knob for adjusting the flame intensity and an igniter for starting the flame. A regulator is supplied to manage the gas pressure from the propane cylinder. The unit is designed to house a propane cylinder within its structure, ensuring a compact and integrated appearance.

Usage Features:

  • Propane Gas Only: The firebowl is designed to operate solely with propane gas cylinders. It explicitly warns against using natural gas or connecting to a remote gas supply.
  • Outdoor Use Only: This appliance must be used exclusively outdoors in a well-ventilated area. It is strictly prohibited for use in enclosed spaces such as buildings, garages, campers, tents, cars, or homes due to the risk of carbon monoxide hazard.
  • Cylinder Requirements: Propane cylinders must be constructed and marked according to U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) specifications. They should have specific measurements (12" diameter x 18" tall) and a maximum capacity of 20 lbs (9 kg). The cylinder must include a collar to protect its valve, and it should never be filled beyond 80% capacity.
  • Safe Operation: Before each use, a leak test must be performed in a well-ventilated area, away from any spark sources. The igniter battery should be removed during the leak test. The tank valve should be opened fully, and the unit's on/off valve turned to the 'off' position to pressurize the hose assembly. A soapy water solution is used to check for leaks at all connections. If a leak is detected, the tank valve must be turned off, and the appliance should not be used until repairs are made.
  • Lighting Procedure: To light the firebowl, the cylinder valve on the gas tank must be opened counter-clockwise. The storing door on the firebowl should be closed. The electric igniter is then pressed and held, while simultaneously pushing and turning the control knob counter-clockwise to the "LOW" position. The control knob must be kept pushed to light the burner. After ignition, the electric igniter is released, but the control knob should continue to be pushed and held for 45 seconds. If ignition does not occur immediately, the control knob should be turned clockwise to "OFF," a 5-minute wait period observed, and the lighting procedure repeated.
  • Flame Observation: When lit, the flame height should ideally be between 2 to 10 inches high, with a yellow/blue color.
  • Extinguishing Procedure: To turn off the firebowl, the control knob should be pushed and turned clockwise to the "OFF" position. For prolonged non-use, the cylinder valve on the gas tank must also be turned clockwise to close the gas supply.
  • Lava Rock Placement: Lava rocks must be placed averagely in the fire bowl, completely covering the burner. It is crucial not to cover the ignition screen, which must remain visible and clear of obstructions at all times. The manual warns against using wet lava rocks, as intense heat can cause them to crack. During initial ignition, users should keep away from the firebowl for the first 20 minutes as lava rocks could be ejected.
  • Safety Warnings: Numerous warnings are provided, including prohibitions against using the firebowl for cooking, storing or using flammable vapors nearby, operating if any part has been underwater, storing spare propane cylinders near the firebowl, or using charcoal or other solid fuels. Users are cautioned about high surface temperatures and advised to keep children and flammable materials away. The firebowl must never be left unattended while in operation.
  • Gas Regulator: Only the gas pressure regulator provided with the propane firebowl must be used. Disconnecting the regulator or any gas fitting while the firebowl is in operation is strictly forbidden.

Maintenance Features:

  • Routine Care: The firebowl should be kept free and clear of combustible materials and debris. The burner should be visually inspected for obstructions. After the burner and lava rocks have completely cooled down, mild stains, loose dirt, and soil can be removed with a soft brush and wiped with a soft cloth.
  • Stubborn Stains: Stubborn stains, discoloration, and rust pitting may occur due to exposure to harsh outdoor conditions. Care should be taken to prevent powder or solvent from contacting painted or plastic components, as this can cause damage.
  • Storage: When not in use, the firebowl should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. If the firebowl is stored indoors, the propane cylinder must be disconnected and removed from the appliance and stored outdoors in a well-ventilated area, out of reach of children. Disconnected cylinders must have threaded valve plugs tightly installed.
  • Battery Maintenance: The battery should be removed from the electric igniter when the firebowl is not used for an extended period. Battery contacts should be cleaned prior to installation, and used batteries should be promptly removed.
  • Hose Inspection: Before each use, the fuel supply hose must be inspected for signs of cracks, abrasions, cuts, or damage. If any damage is found, the hose must be fixed or replaced before operating the appliance.
  • Burner Inspection: The burner should be inspected before each use. If there is evidence of damage, the burner must be replaced with a manufacturer-approved or supplied replacement burner before the appliance is put into operation.
  • Professional Servicing: Installation and repair should be performed by a qualified service person. The appliance should be inspected before use and at least annually by a qualified service person. More frequent cleaning may be necessary. It is imperative to keep the control compartment, burners, and circulating air passageways clean. If the control system or any gas control has been submerged in water, a qualified service technician must be called immediately to inspect and replace the affected parts.
  • Replacement Parts: Only manufacturer-approved or supplied replacement parts and accessories should be used. Using unauthorized parts may void the warranty and lead to hazardous conditions. The manual provides contact information for obtaining replacement hoses, thermocouples, igniters, and lava rocks.
