– In the vicinity of areas where people smoke; tobacco smoke
will lead to false alarms
– In the vicinity of solid steel beams, large metal surfaces, or
similar as they could significantly inhibit the transmission or
reception of the wireless signal. Moving the detector by just
a few centimeters can often be a great help here.
Audibility test
Before mounting the detector, trigger a test alarm to check
whether the installation location is suitable. Make sure that you
can hear the alarm at any place in your building or flat. Adapt
the number or the arrangement of the detectors to achieve full
protection.
Consider that the smoke detector really has to wake you up. It is
not sufficient if you can only just hear it when you’re already
awake.
Commissioning
After you have determined the appropriate mounting locations,
you have to install and commission the detectors. Follow the
required steps, which are explained in detail in this chapter:
