Appendix E: 120V AC ~ 240V AC Conversion
It is recommended the following service be performed by a qualified service technician.
To convert the CS-540 to 240V AC, follow these steps:
1. Make sure the unit is unplugged from the AC outlet.
2. Remove the top chassis piece by unscrewing the nine screws and one socket head screw from
the front panel.
3. Locate the power supply in the upper left corner of chassis.
4. Remove the jumper cable connecting D and E located on the circuit board. To remove the
jumper, unplug both ends of the cable.
5. Replace chassis top.
APPENDIX F: Frequently Asked Questions
1. Q: I’ve programmed the repeater for 40 Watts, why is it only transmitting 5 Watts?
A: Restore factory defaults for that channel. See restoring factory defaults section in the
Alignment Chapter 9.
2. Q: The repeater indicates it’s transmitting, yet I’m not getting any power out and the
fan is not turning on. What’s wrong?
A: You may have the RF PA turned off. If this is the case there should be an arrow icon
illuminated in the upper right corner of the display. To turn the RF PA back on, go to AUX mode
and press-and-release the DOWN button. This will toggle the RF PA setting.
3. Q: I’ve programmed the repeater’s channel information, and it’s not repeating the
audio. What’s wrong?
A: Restore factory defaults for the channel. See restoring factory defaults section in the
Alignment Chapter 9. Also, did you place the user information in question in Slot 0? If so, this
slot is reserved for the system operator to manage the repeater and calls on this slot will not be
repeated. Therefore place all users of the system in slots other than 0.
4. Q: How do I reduce/increase the Transmit tone/code deviation and reduce/increase
the overall transmit Deviation?
A: While repeating a call, press and hold the AUX button to go to the alignment menu. Select
the Sub Dev option. Using your service monitor, adjust the sub deviation to your liking by
pressing the up/down buttons. You may now want to adjust your TX Deviation. This is done
by selecting the TX Dev menu option. Press-and-release the up/down buttons to adjust the TX
Deviation level to your liking. It may be the repeater will stop transmitting during this
procedure. This is due to the TX Timeout Timer expiring. See Alignment Chapter 9 for more
information.
5. Q: The repeater is transmitting off frequency slightly. How do I fine tune?
A: Go to the alignment menu and select TX Freq. Adjust the TCXO voltage by pressing the
up/down buttons to get the repeater dead-on frequency. See Alignment Chapter 9 for exact
procedure.
