There are

three

openings across the

front

of

the

cartridge

that

allow the heads

and

capstan

to

penetrate

the

shell

and

contact

the

tape.

In

addition,

there

is

an

opening in

the

bottom

for

the

pressure

roller

to

rotate

through

the

cartridge

behind

the

tape.

Unlike

some

cartridges

used in consumer

entertainment

systems,

the

pressure

roller

(pinch

roller

or

capstan

idler)

is

part

of

the

cartridge

player

and

not

the

cartridge

.
