Overview

This document is the Basic Operation Manual for the Brother S-1000A High Speed Single Needle Straight Lock Stitcher, an industrial sewing machine. It provides essential information for safe installation, operation, and maintenance of the device.

Function Description:

The Brother S-1000A is a high-speed, single-needle, straight lock stitcher designed for industrial sewing applications. Its primary function is to create straight lock stitches efficiently and reliably. The machine is built for continuous operation in a manufacturing environment, emphasizing speed and stitch quality. Users are advised to read the manual thoroughly before use and keep it for quick reference, especially due to the inherent dangers associated with operating industrial sewing machines with moving parts like the needle and thread take-up.

Important Technical Specifications:

While detailed technical specifications like motor power output, maximum sewing speed, and specific dimensions are not fully consolidated in a single section, the manual provides several key technical details:

  • Table Thickness: The top of the sewing table should be 40 mm thick and strong enough to support the machine's weight and withstand vibrations.
  • Machine Weight: The sewing machine head weighs approximately 30 kg (70 lbs), requiring two or more people for installation.
  • Environmental Requirements:
    • Temperature: Operating ambient temperature should be between 5°C and 35°C.
    • Humidity: Relative humidity should be between 45% and 85%, with no dew formation.
    • Voltage Fluctuation: Power supply voltage fluctuations must be within ±10% of the rated voltage.
    • Electrical Noise: The machine should be used in an area free from strong electrical noise (line noise or static electricity).
    • Power Supply Capacity: The power supply capacity must exceed the machine's power consumption requirements.
  • Motor Options: The machine can be used with 2-pole, 400 W clutch motors (single-phase or three-phase).
  • Motor Pulley and V-belt (50Hz):
    • For 3,500 sti/min: Motor pulley (outer diameter) 90, V-belt 43.
    • For 4,000 sti/min: Motor pulley (outer diameter) 100, V-belt 43.
  • Motor Pulley and V-belt (60Hz):
    • For 3,500 sti/min: Motor pulley (outer diameter) 75, V-belt 42.
    • For 4,000 sti/min: Motor pulley (outer diameter) 85, V-belt 43.
  • V-belt Deflection: The V-belt (2) should have 10-14 mm of deflection when pressed at the midway point with a force of 5 N.
  • Knee Lifter Adjustment: The knee lifter (7) should have approximately 2 mm of play when gently pressed. The presser foot (5) should be within 13 mm of the needle plate when the knee lifter plate (1) is fully pressed.
  • Lubricating Oil: JX Nippon Oil & Energy Corporation Sewing Lube 10N (VG10) or Exxon Mobil Essotex SM10 (VG10) is specified.

Usage Features:

The manual outlines several key usage features and safety protocols:

  • Safety Devices: The machine requires the installation of safety devices such as a finger guard, thread take-up cover, and belt cover for safe operation.
  • Power Control: Users must turn off the power switch before threading the needle, replacing the bobbin and needle, or when not using the machine. It's crucial to wait for the motor to stop completely due to inertia.
  • Operation Environment: The machine should not be set up near televisions, radios, or cordless telephones to avoid electronic interference. It should be plugged directly into an AC wall outlet, avoiding extension cords.
  • Tilting Machine Head: The machine head can be tilted back for maintenance. This requires holding section (A) with a foot to secure the table and pushing the arm with both hands. When returning the head to the upright position, users must hold the face plate with one hand and gently guide the head with the other, ensuring no tools are near table holes.
  • Knee Lifter: The knee lifter plate (1) can be adjusted for ease of use by loosening bolt (2) and repositioning it.
  • Bobbin Winder: The bobbin winder (4) is installed on the table, and its wheel (2) should push the belt (3) by approximately 5 mm. There should be about 8 mm clearance between the bobbin winder wheel (2) and the belt (3) when the presser arm (1) is pulled back.
  • Grounding: Proper grounding is essential to prevent electric shock and ensure correct operation. Ground wires must be connected to the sewing machine head, motor, and oil pan.
  • Lubrication: The machine requires lubrication before first use and after long periods of non-use. Oil should be poured until the level reaches the "HIGH" mark, and replenished if it drops below the "LOW" mark.
  • Machine Pulley Rotation: After installation, users must check that the machine pulley rotates in the correct direction (indicated by an arrow) by depressing the treadle slightly. If the direction is reversed, it must be changed according to the motor's instruction manual.

Maintenance Features:

The manual emphasizes the importance of qualified personnel for maintenance and provides guidelines:

  • Qualified Technicians: All installation, maintenance, and inspection of the sewing machine, especially electrical work, must be carried out by a qualified technician or a Brother dealer.
  • Safety During Maintenance:
    • Always turn off the power switch and disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet before carrying out inspection, adjustment, maintenance, or replacing consumable parts (e.g., rotary hook).
    • Wait for the motor to stop completely due to inertia before starting work.
    • If the power switch needs to be left on for adjustment, extreme caution must be exercised.
  • Protective Gear: Wear protective goggles and gloves when handling lubricating oil to prevent eye or skin irritation.
  • Replacement Parts: Only use proper replacement parts specified by Brother. Unauthorized modifications will void the warranty.
  • Safety Device Re-installation: If any safety devices are removed for maintenance, they must be re-installed to their original positions and checked for correct operation before using the machine again.
  • Table Security: Ensure the table is securely fastened so it does not move when tilting the machine head, preventing injury.
  • Cleaning: Turn off the power switch and wait for the motor to stop before cleaning.
  • Oil Handling: Lubricating oil should not be ingested and must be kept out of reach of children. In case of eye contact, rinse with water and seek medical help. For skin contact, wash with soap and water. If swallowed, seek medical help immediately without inducing vomiting.
