Operation
Tiller Electric Models
While seated, press the start button. (If
equipped with a key switch, it must be in the
ON position.) Crank the engine no longer than
20 seconds.
Upon start-up, release the button.
If the engine did not start, release the button
momentarily, then try again.
Key Switch
While seated, turn the key switch fully clock-
wise to the start position. Crank the engine no
longer than 20 seconds. Starter can be acti-
vated using the key switch or the start button.
Upon start-up, release the key.
If the engine did not start, release the key mo-
mentarily, then try again.
IMPORTANT: Engine will not start if outboard
is in gear or if tether cord is not in place.
If your outboard does not react normally to
this starting procedure or if it fails to start, re-
fer to Troubleshooting on page 67.
After Engine Starts
Check the water pump indicator. A steady
stream of water indicates the water pump is
working. If a steady stream of water from the
water pump indicator is not visible, stop the
engine. Refer to Engine Overheating on
page 45.
Engine Stopping
Twist the throttle grip to SLOWEST speed po-
sition.
Move shift lever to NEUTRAL.
Press the engine cut–off switch until the out-
board stops running.
NOTICE
The starter motor can be damaged if
operated continuously for more than 20
seconds.
