Overview

The BWT AQA nano is a state-of-the-art limescale protection device designed to provide effective and reliable protection against limescale buildup in drinking water systems. This device utilizes advanced nano-crystal technology to prevent the adherence of limescale particles, ensuring the longevity and efficiency of your plumbing and appliances while maintaining the natural quality of your drinking water.

Function Description

The AQA nano operates on the principle of nano-crystal formation. At its core, the integrated limescale protection unit features a three-dimensional electrode. This electrode, when activated, generates defined current/voltage pulses that create a localized displacement of the limescale carbonic acid balance in the water. This process facilitates the formation of microscopic nano-crystals. These nano-crystals are exceptionally small and carry an electrical charge, which prevents them from adhering to surfaces within pipes and boilers. Instead, they remain suspended in the water, effectively absorbing limescale and preventing the formation of deposits. Crucially, this process does not alter the chemical composition of the drinking water, ensuring that valuable and essential mineral nutrients like calcium and magnesium are retained.

The device is designed for use in pipes carrying drinking water, providing limescale protection up to 20°dH. It is effective in downstream, closed water heaters with surface temperatures up to 80°C. The AQA nano is suitable for flow rates up to 25 liters per minute. It is important to note that the device is intended for the processing of drinking water for human consumption and use within these specified flow limits. Any use outside these parameters or with other media is not intended and may void liability claims against the manufacturer.

Usage Features

The AQA nano is designed for ease of use and reliability. It features an integrated control unit and screw connections for straightforward installation. The device comes with a standard flow direction from left to right, but this can be easily changed if required by following a simple procedure involving the release of locking screws, removal of cladding, and re-orientation of the connection.

Upon initial start-up or after changing the limescale protection unit, the device requires a thorough rinsing by opening a drain valve for approximately three minutes. This ensures that any shavings or impurities introduced during installation are flushed out, maintaining hygienic conditions.

The device provides clear operational status through two indicator LEDs in an inspection window. When both LEDs light up, the device is in standby mode. When water is being removed, the upper indicator LED flashes every two seconds. If this signal is not displayed, users should check the flow direction, power supply, and cable connections. If the "IN OPERATION" LED goes out, it indicates that the limescale protection unit needs to be changed. If the "POWER" LED goes out, it suggests a power supply fault or device damage. If the "POWER" LED does not flash when water is removed, it means water is not being removed by the device or there is a fault. In such cases, contacting a fitter or BWT technical advisor is recommended.

The AQA nano also offers a "BWT Comfort" feature, where the electronics will remind you of the annual service required, ensuring consistent performance and peace of mind. The "BWT Drinking water guarantee" ensures that your drinking water retains all its valuable minerals. The "BWT Service guarantee" provides access to a competent partner for support and service.

Maintenance Features

Maintaining the AQA nano is designed to be simple and user-friendly, with clear indicators for when attention is needed. The most common maintenance task is changing the limescale protection unit. The device signals when this is required by the "IN OPERATION" LED going out.

The process for changing the limescale protection unit involves several steps:

  1. Isolation and Access: First, isolate the water pipe before and after the AQA nano and release the locking screws on the side of the device. Then, remove the device cladding.
  2. Pressure Discharge: Open the black drain screw at the bottom of the transparent cylinder to discharge any residual pressure.
  3. Removal of Old Unit: Unscrew the transparent cylinder manually and detach the old limescale protection unit. The old unit can be disposed of in domestic waste or sent for recycling.
  4. Installation of New Unit: Open the protective covering of the new limescale protection unit and remove it from its packaging, ideally using hygiene gloves. Set the new unit onto the two titanium electrodes, ensuring the points of the electrodes correctly engage with the conduits of the unit. Push the unit until it clicks over the electrodes.
  5. Reassembly and Confirmation: Tighten the transparent cylinder manually. Confirm that the limescale protection unit has been changed by holding the "RESET" key for approximately three seconds. The green "IN OPERATION" indicator light will then illuminate again.
  6. Final Checks: Finally, check all cable connections are tight and refit the device cladding using the two locking screws.

To ensure optimal hygiene safety, efficient working, and a long life for the device, regular visual checks (at least once a week) and monitoring of the operating status (LED lights) are recommended. Professional maintenance and servicing by an expert fitter or BWT customer service are highly encouraged to maintain the highest safety levels and ensure correct operation. It is crucial to adhere to local installation regulations, general guidelines, general hygiene requirements, and technical data. The installation area must be frost-proof and protected from heat sources over 40°C, chemicals, dyes, solvents, vapors, and environmental influences. The ambient temperature should not exceed 40°C, and direct sunlight or ultra-violet light should be avoided.

For protection against foreign particles, a DIN/DVGW (or ÖVGW) tested drinking water filter is essential. If the mains pressure exceeds 4 bar, a pressure reducer should be added to protect the entire installation. A testing line is also required for function checks of the AQA nano. For warranty claims or breakdowns, contacting your trade partner, installation company, or BWT's customer service with device details is necessary. Using original BWT spare and wear parts is recommended to ensure reliability and longevity.
