  If your Canon Camcorder is not focusing, make sure that it is set to CAMERA mode and that the power is on. Verify that a cassette is loaded. If the tape has reached the end, rewind it or replace the cassette. If the cassette is protected, replace the tape or change the position of the protect switch. Ensure the camcorder is set to CAMERA mode. If you're having trouble focusing on a particular subject, try focusing manually. Adjust the viewfinder with the diopter adjustment lever. Also, ensure that the lens is clean. Certain lighting conditions or loud sounds are not malfunctions.

Also, if the camcorder and wireless controller are not set to the same remote sensor mode, change the remote sensor modes. Finally, make sure that batteries of the wireless controller are not exhausted and replace them if needed. In some cases, the camcorder may have stopped operating to protect the tape; try unloading and reloading the cassette.

  If pressing the playback button on your Canon Camcorder doesn't start playback, first ensure that the camcorder is turned on and set to PLAY (VCR) mode. Check that a cassette is loaded and, if the tape has reached the end, rewind it. Also, check the settings in the menu: make sure that [AV/PHONES] is set to [AV] and [AV / DV OUT] is set to [OFF]. Ensure that the TV/VIDEO selector on the TV is set to VIDEO. Adjust the volume with the selector dial if the speaker volume is turned off. Finally, stop playback/dubbing if you attempted to play back or dub copyright protected tape.
