Questions and Answers

Overview

The Caple DD925CO is a downdraft extractor hood designed for use in both recirculation mode and ducted with outside evacuation. It is intended for personal use in the home and must be operated by adults, kept out of reach of children, and children should not operate its controls. The appliance is designed for normal domestic use and not for commercial or industrial purposes.

Function Description:

The primary function of the DD925CO downdraft extractor is to suck cooking fumes, greases, and steam from the cooking area. It can be installed to either discharge extracted air outside (ducted version) or to recirculate filtered air back into the kitchen (recirculated mode). In recirculation mode, activated charcoal filters are required. The downdraft unit is designed to rise when in use and retract when not needed, offering a sleek, integrated look in the kitchen. It features multiple extraction speeds and a timer function.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Supply: 220 - 240 V monophase electrical network, connected through a CEI 60083 approved power socket.
  • Power Cord: H05 VVF 3 conductor, 0.75mm² (neutral, phase, and ground).
  • Safety: Must be fed through a differential protection device (RCD) with a nominal residual current not exceeding 30mA.
  • Ducting Diameter: 150mm constant diameter rigid ducting pipe (or equal surface area).
  • Maximum Ducting Length: 5 meters.
  • Minimum Distance to Hob (closed): 400mm from the surface above.
  • Minimum Gap for Gas Hobs: 50mm between the edge of a gas hob and the downdraft frame.
  • Electrical Box Placement: No less than 65cm from gas operated hobs, or 65cm from the suctioning surface of the cooker hood. Recommended at least 10cm above floor level and away from heat sources.
  • Standby Energy Consumption: Lower than 0.5W.

Remote Control Technical Data:

  • Battery: 12V mod. 27A alkaline battery.
  • Operating Frequency: 433.92 Mhz.
  • Combinations: 4096.
  • Max. Consumption: 25 mA.
  • Operating Temperature: -20 ÷ +55 °C.

Usage Features:

  • Installation: The downdraft is inserted into a rectangular opening of 842 x 100mm in the back of the worktop. Fixing brackets secure it to the cabinet, ensuring the stainless steel trim adheres perfectly to the work surface.
  • Motor Options: Can be used with an internal motor or an external motor (Caple-made external motors are necessary for normal downdraft operation with external motors).
  • Air Duct Positions: 5 air duct positions are available on the downdraft for connecting ducting from the motor.
  • Control Panel: Features a "LIGHT ON/OFF KEY" (operates only when the downdraft is fully open/up), an "ON/OFF KEY" (starts upward movement, sets second extraction speed, or retracts the unit and switches off motor/light), a "-" KEY (reduces motor speed from 4th to off), a "+" KEY (increases motor speed from 1st to 4th), and "INDICATORS" (LEDs signal speed setting).
  • Timer: A "TIMER" function allows the motor to stop, the extractable unit to close, and lights to turn off after 10 minutes. This function can be annulled by pressing the key again.
  • Automatic Turn Off: The appliance automatically turns off and closes after 4 hours of continuous operation from the last function selection.
  • Security Safety System: If an obstacle is detected while the extractable unit is closing, the downdraft stops and rises again.
  • Intelligent Electronics: Includes a timer device for speed controls when air capacity exceeds 650m³/h. Internal motor models with max air capacity > 650m³/h automatically switch from 4th to 3rd speed after 6 minutes. External motor models with max air capacity > 650m³/h at 4th and 3rd speed automatically switch from 4th to 2nd speed after 6 minutes, and from 3rd to 2nd speed after 7 minutes.
  • Remote Control: Allows for remote operation of the downdraft. It is possible to generate a new transmission code for the remote control system to avoid interference if multiple hoods are in proximity. The battery should be replaced annually.

Maintenance Features:

  • Grease Filter Removal: Metal grease filters are magnetically secured and can be removed using a hand tool or knife edge via a slot in the filter sides. They should be cleaned regularly.
  • Charcoal Filter Installation/Replacement: In recirculation mode, activated charcoal filters are installed directly on the back of the grease filter. They should be replaced periodically, on average every six months, depending on effective use. After replacement, the front stainless steel panel must be re-applied for the downdraft to function.
  • Cleaning External Surfaces: Use commercially available household detergents diluted in water, rinse with clean water, and dry with a soft cloth. Avoid metallic scrubbers, abrasive products, or hard brushes.
  • Safety Disconnection: Always disconnect the hood from the electrical network (unplug or activate circuit breaker) before cleaning or maintenance.
  • Aftersales Service: For spare parts or assistance, contact Caple Service at 0117 938 7420 or service@caple.co.uk. Appliance details from the rating label and production date (on the lower side of the downdraft) should be provided. Maintenance operations should only be carried out by the retailer or a Caple approved engineer.

Safety Instructions and Warnings:

  • Ensure proper ventilation in the room when the cooker hood and other non-electric appliances are used simultaneously to prevent the hood from sucking combustion fumes.
  • Do not cook food over open flames (flambé) or operate gas hobs without pots/pans while using the hood, as flames can damage the appliance.
  • Frying must be done under constant supervision due to the risk of hot oils and fats igniting.
  • Accumulated grease deposits are a fire hazard; adhere to guidelines for cleaning and replacing grease filters.
  • Do not use the appliance near wood or coal-powered hobs, or hobs with power levels that could damage it.
  • Never use steam or high-pressure devices for cleaning.
  • Do not use the cooker hood without grease filters fitted.
  • Never put hands in the field of action of the extractable unit or touch moving parts when handling the downdraft.
  • Do not change or attempt to change the characteristics of the appliance; repairs must be performed by an authorised Caple engineer.
  • Ensure the non-return valves can move freely before connecting the air exhaust hose.
  • The air collected must not be conveyed into a flue used for smoke or fumes from appliances powered by anything other than electricity. Follow competent authorities' guidelines for discharging exhaust air.
  • Electrical connections must be carried out only by professional and qualified technicians, complying with VDE0100 standard.
  • If the appliance has no plug or an inaccessible plug, a device with an opening distance between contacts on all poles of at least 3mm must be fitted to cut it off from the electric network.
  • In case of power cord damage, contact Caple after-sales service.
  • Any anomalies with the cooker hood require disconnecting the appliance or removing the corresponding fuse.
