WINCH OPERATION
(OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT)
• When a tree is too large to carry to the
chipper, use the winch to pull the tree to
the infeed chute.
• To operate the winch:
1. Put the feed control bar in the middle
(stop) position and turn the WINCH
SELECTOR switch from FEED
WHEELS ON to WINCH ON engaging
the winch circuit. The feed wheels
should not turn when the winch circuit is
engaged, DO NOT operate the winch if
the feed wheels still turn. Contact J. P.
Carlton or the local Carlton dealer for
service
2. Put the winch in free spool by putting
both levers on the winch drum in FREE.
(The levers may be in any position but
the correct words must be facing away
from the winch drum to perform the
function. See Machine Control section
or decal on chipper for lever operation.)
ONLY USE THE WINCH TO DRAG
MATERIAL TO THE CHIPPER
THAT IS GOING TO BE CHIPPED.
NEVER USE THE CHIPPER
WINCH TO SECURE OR HOLD
LOADS.
