Do you have a question about the Casio 5640 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document describes the CASIO Operation Guide 5640, a solar-powered, radio-controlled atomic watch with various timekeeping and utility functions.

Function Description

The watch features Timekeeping Mode for displaying the current date and time, configuring Home City and Daylight Saving Time (DST) settings, manually adjusting time and date, performing time calibration receive operations, checking the latest signal reception results, and switching between 12-hour and 24-hour timekeeping. It also displays an alarm countdown.

The World Time Mode allows viewing the current time in 48 cities across 31 time zones globally, with the ability to swap Home Time and World Time Cities.

The Stopwatch Mode measures elapsed time, split times, and two finishes, with a measuring unit of 1/100 second and a capacity of 59 minutes, 59.99 seconds.

The Countdown Timer Mode offers a countdown range from one second to 100 minutes, with an alarm sounding when the countdown reaches zero.

The Alarm Mode supports setting five independent daily alarms and an Hourly Time Signal, which beeps twice every hour.

The watch incorporates a Double LED light for both the face and the digital display, featuring Full auto LED light, Super illuminator, and selectable illumination durations (approximately 1.5 or 3 seconds), with afterglow.

Radio-controlled Atomic Timekeeping enables the watch to receive time calibration signals and update its time settings automatically in areas covered by transmitters in Japan, North America, Europe, and China. Auto receive operations occur up to six times a day (five times for the Chinese signal) between midnight and 5 a.m., with manual receive also possible. Signal reception is normally better at night and can take from three to eight minutes, or up to 16 minutes.

Power Saving is an enabled feature that automatically puts the watch into a sleep state when left in the dark for a certain period. There are two levels: "display sleep" (60-70 minutes in dark, digital display disabled, all functions enabled) and "function sleep" (6 or 7 days in dark, digital display and hands stopped at 12 o'clock, all functions disabled except timekeeping). The watch will not enter sleep state between 6:00 AM and 9:59 PM, or while in Stopwatch or Countdown Timer Mode.

The watch also includes a Power Recovery Mode, indicated by flashing battery power indicators (H, M, L), which occurs after multiple illumination, beeper, and/or high-speed hand movement operations. During this mode, illumination, alarm, countdown timer alarm, and hourly time signal operations are disabled for about 15 minutes until power recovers.

Usage Features

  • Charging: The watch charges whenever exposed to light. Best performance is achieved by exposing it to the strongest available light. Leaving the watch in bright light for charging can cause it to become quite hot; care should be taken to avoid burn injury.
  • Battery Power Indicator: Displays five levels (H, M, L, CHG, all functions disabled) to indicate the watch's power level. Flashing LOW message at Level 3 indicates very low battery.
  • Hand Home Position Adjustment: Allows manual adjustment of analog hands if they become misaligned due to magnetism or impact.
  • Moving the Hands for Easy Viewing of Digital Information: Analog hands can be temporarily moved out of the way to better view digital information.
  • Button Operation Tone: Can be enabled or disabled as desired.
  • Auto Return: The watch automatically returns to Timekeeping Mode if no button operation is performed for two or three minutes in Alarm Mode, or if a setting screen is left flashing for two or three minutes.
  • Scrolling: Buttons are used to scroll through data in setting screens, with high-speed scrolling available by holding them down.
  • Water Resistance: Varies by model (5BAR, 10BAR, 20BAR). Precautions include not operating buttons underwater, avoiding hot water, and rinsing with fresh water after seawater exposure.

Maintenance Features

  • Caring for Your Watch: Keep the watch clean by frequently wiping with a soft cloth to remove dirt, sweat, water, and other foreign matter.
  • Cleaning:
    • For metal or resin bands with metal parts: Use a soft toothbrush with a weak solution of water and mild neutral detergent, then rinse and wipe dry.
    • For resin bands: Wash with water and wipe dry with a soft cloth.
    • For leather bands: Wipe with a soft cloth to clean water and sweat.
  • Rust Prevention: Clean dirt from metal components to prevent rust formation, especially after exposure to sweat or water.
  • Band Care: Avoid tightening the band too tightly. Keep the band clean to prevent deterioration, rust, and skin irritation. Stop using the band immediately if any abnormality is noticed.
  • Chemicals: Avoid contact with thinners, gasoline, solvents, oils, fats, cleaners, adhesives, paints, medicines, or cosmetics, as these can cause discoloration or damage.
  • Storage: If not using for a long time, wipe thoroughly and store in a cool, dry place. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or high temperatures.
  • Gaskets: Have the watch's gaskets replaced periodically (every two or three years) to maintain water resistance.
