Overview

This document describes the CAVIST46 wine cellar, designed to store 46 bottles. It includes instructions for installation, operation, and maintenance, available in English, French, German, Dutch, Spanish, and Italian.

Function Description

The CAVIST46 is a wine cellar designed for storing wine bottles at optimal temperatures. It features two independent cooling zones, allowing for different temperature settings suitable for various types of wine (e.g., sparkling, white, rosé, red). The appliance uses natural refrigerant gas (R600a Isobutene) as part of its cooling system, which is environmentally friendly. It can be installed as a freestanding unit or built into cabinetry. The wine cellar also includes a humidity control system to enhance storage conditions, which is an optional feature.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Model: CAVIST46
  • Capacity: 46 bottles (standard 0.75 litre Bordeaux style wine bottles). The actual number may vary depending on bottle size and dimensions.
  • Power Supply: 230-240V AC; 50Hz.
  • Refrigerant Gas: R600a (Isobutene), environmentally friendly but combustible.
  • Temperature Zones: Two independent cooling zones.
  • Temperature Range: 5°C to 22°C (40°F to 72°F) for each zone.
  • Optimal Temperature Difference between Zones: At least 4°C.
  • Recommended Upper Zone Temperature: 5°C to 13°C (40°F to 55°F) for sparkling and white wines.
  • Recommended Lower Zone Temperature: 13°C to 22°C (55°F to 72°F) for white and red wines.
  • Humidity Control: Optional humidity reservoir for maintaining optimal humidity levels (60%-70% is ideal for corks).
  • Dimensions for Built-in Installation (Minimum): (H)875 x (W)600 x (D)600mm.
  • Ventilation: Requires a base vent for proper operation; nothing should obstruct this vent.
  • Door Reversal: Capability to open from either the left or right side.

Usage Features

Installation and Setup: The appliance should be placed on a flat, firm, and well-ventilated surface, at least 10cm away from heat sources and other cooling appliances to prevent humidity build-up. Adjustable feet are provided for leveling. For built-in installation, specific aperture dimensions must be observed, especially depth. The appliance must be plugged into an earthed socket. After transport, it should stand upright for at least 3 hours before being switched on to allow the coolant to settle.

Control Panel: The control panel, located inside the appliance, features touch controls for:

  • Power On/Off: Press and hold light and zone selection controls together for 5 seconds.
  • Light On/Off: Toggles the internal light.
  • Zone Selection: Selects which cooling zone to adjust.
  • Temperature Display: Shows internal temperature for upper and lower zones in Celsius or Fahrenheit.
  • Temperature Up/Down: Increases or decreases the internal temperature of the selected zone by 1°C or 1°F per press.
  • Temperature Setting Logic: The lower zone temperature must always be the same or higher than the upper zone temperature. For optimal performance, a minimum 4°C difference between zone settings is recommended.

First Use: Before first use, clean all internal parts with a solution of bicarbonate of soda and warm water, then dry thoroughly. Remove all transport tapes and foam. An initial odor may be present but will dissipate as the appliance cools. Avoid frequent door opening or placing bottles inside during the initial cooling period. If the unit is unplugged or switched off, wait at least 5 minutes before restarting.

Loading and Storage: The cellar is designed for 0.75 litre Bordeaux style bottles. Ensure the door can close properly without touching bottles. Loading multiple bottles at once will extend cooling time. Wine should be stored at stable temperatures, away from light, vibrations, and extreme humidity fluctuations. Wines kept at higher temperatures age faster and may suffer from poorer flavor. Optimal humidity (60-70%) prevents cork shrinkage. Opened bottles should be stored upright and resealed to minimize air contact.

Humidity Control: An optional humidity reservoir (small plastic container) is located on the top shelf of the top zone. Fill it ¾ full with cold water and place it correctly on the runners to maintain humidity. Regularly check and refill the water level.

Shelves: Shelves can be pulled out approximately 1/3 for easy access and have an emergency stop to prevent accidental removal when loaded. To remove a shelf, open the door fully, align the notches/indentations on the wooden shelf with the plastic posts, then lift and remove. Reinstall by aligning notches with posts and dropping the shelf into place.

Door Reversal: The door can be reversed to open from either the left or right. This process involves tilting the appliance backward (no more than 45 degrees), removing screws from the lower hinge, detaching the glass door, removing upper and lower hinges, installing new hinges on the opposite side, rotating the door 180 degrees, reattaching it, and replacing screw covers. All removed parts should be retained for future use. After reversal, the appliance must remain upright for at least 3 hours before being turned on.

Maintenance Features

Internal Cleaning:

  • Disconnect from power supply before cleaning.
  • Do not pour water directly over the appliance.
  • Clean the cavity periodically with a solution of 5ml bicarbonate of soda in 0.5 liters of lukewarm water.
  • Clean accessories separately with soap and water; do not use a dishwasher.
  • Avoid abrasive products, detergents, or soaps.
  • Rinse with clean water and dry carefully.
  • Reconnect with dry hands.

External Cleaning:

  • Wash the outer cabinet with warm soapy water. Do NOT use abrasive products.
  • Exercise caution when cleaning the underside due to sharp edges.
  • Dust the rear of the appliance and the compressor once or twice a year with a brush or vacuum cleaner to prevent dust accumulation, which can affect performance and increase energy consumption.

When Not in Use: For long periods of disuse, disconnect from power, empty contents, and clean the interior. Leave the door open to prevent odor build-up.

Defrosting:

  • Defrosting occurs automatically during operation. Defrost water is collected in an evaporating tray and evaporates automatically.
  • Periodically clean the evaporating tray and defrost water drain hole to prevent water accumulation.
  • A small amount of water can be poured down the drain hole for cleaning.
  • Ensure wine bottles do not touch the rear wall of the appliance, as this can interrupt automatic defrosting and divert water to the base of the cabinet.

Troubleshooting: A comprehensive troubleshooting guide is provided for common issues such as the appliance not working, incorrect internal temperature, vibrations, moisture build-up, odors, and door closure problems. Error codes 'EL' or 'EH' indicate air temperature sensor failure.

Electrical Safety and Environment: The appliance must be earthed. Dispose of the product responsibly at designated collection points for electrical and electronic equipment, as it contains hazardous substances. Do not dispose of it with household waste.
