Overview

The Chefman TurboFry® Touch Air Fryer is a modern kitchen appliance designed for healthier cooking, allowing users to achieve crisp perfection with little to no oil. Its sleek square design and stainless-steel accents make it an attractive addition to any kitchen. The air fryer utilizes a high-speed fan to circulate hot air around food, cooking it faster than a traditional oven and promoting crisp results.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Chefman TurboFry® Touch Air Fryer is to air fry foods. This process involves circulating hot air to cook ingredients, mimicking the results of deep frying but with significantly less or no oil. It can cook a wide variety of foods that would typically be prepared in a conventional oven, from french fries and onion rings to chicken wings and more substantial items like steak. The appliance features a basic touch-screen control panel for easy operation, allowing users to set precise temperatures and cooking times.

Usage Features:

The TurboFry® Touch Air Fryer is designed for straightforward use, making it accessible for both first-time air fryer users and experienced cooks.

  • Touch-Screen Control Panel: The control panel is intuitive, featuring a temperature/time display that alternates between the two settings. Dedicated buttons for "Temp" and "Time" allow users to adjust these settings easily. Plus and minus signs enable incremental adjustments: five degrees at a time for temperature (ranging from 200°F to 400°F) and one-minute increments for time (up to one hour). Holding down the plus or minus buttons allows for fast scrolling, with time jumping to the nearest multiple of 5 and then advancing in 5-minute intervals. Pulsing the button slows down the scrolling for precise adjustments.
  • Start/Stop/Cancel Functionality: A "Start" button initiates the cooking process, indicated by animated dashes on the display. A "Stop/Cancel" button allows users to halt heating and the fan at any point during cooking.
  • Two-Piece Basket Design: The air fryer includes a simple two-piece basket system, consisting of a main basket and a removable basket rack. The basket rack is designed to allow air to circulate around foods for even cooking and crisping, while also letting excess fat drip down for healthier eating. The rack can be easily inserted and removed by aligning an arrow on the rack with an arrow inside the basket and pinching the center grip bar.
  • Food Capacity: Users should place food on the fry rack, ensuring it does not surpass the MAX line embossed on the basket to prevent overcrowding and ensure even cooking.
  • Preheating: While not strictly necessary, preheating the air fryer for 5 minutes before cooking is recommended to cook foods faster and enhance crispness. If the unit is cold, a few minutes should be added to the expected cooking time.
  • Mid-Cooking Interaction: During cooking, the basket can be removed to check on, turn, or shake foods. The timer and heating will automatically resume once the basket is returned to the unit.
  • Shake Reminder: The air fryer features a "Shake" reminder that illuminates on the control panel and emits a beep when it's time to shake or flip foods. This is particularly beneficial for smaller items like french fries or chicken wings to ensure even cooking. For larger or more fragile items, gentle tossing or flipping is advised. The shake light turns off when the basket is removed and will automatically go off after a brief period if the basket is not pulled out.
  • Automatic Shut-Off: Once the set cooking time is complete, the air fryer automatically turns off.
  • Oil Usage: The TurboFry® Touch Air Fryer requires little to no oil. For a crisp exterior, foods can be lightly tossed with a small amount of oil (e.g., 1/2 teaspoon per batch for most recipes) in a separate bowl before being placed in the air fryer. High-fat foods or prepared foods typically require no additional oil. It is crucial never to fill the basket with oil, as this product is not a deep fryer.
  • Batter Compatibility: Loose batters, like those used for deep frying, are not suitable for air frying as they tend to slide off. Recipes should be adapted to use thicker coatings, preferably including breadcrumbs, to help the coating adhere.
  • Temperature Guidelines: Most foods fry best between 325°F and 400°F. Lower temperatures can be used for gentler cooking and reheating to prevent overcooking.
  • Batch Cooking: To avoid overcrowding the basket, which can inhibit browning and crisping, it is recommended to fry food in batches.
  • Food Safety: Users should always follow food safety guidelines for doneness, as air fryer temperatures and food sizes can vary. Relying solely on recipe timing is not advised; foods should be checked against current safety guidelines before serving.

Maintenance Features:

The nonstick coating on the basket and rack simplifies the cleaning process, ensuring easy upkeep of the appliance.

  • Cool-Down Period: Before cleaning, the unit, basket, and basket rack must be unplugged and allowed to cool completely. Keeping the hot basket out of the unit can accelerate cooling.
  • Basket and Rack Removal: The cooled basket rack can be easily removed from the basket by inserting a thumb and index finger into the ovals in the center of the rack, pinching the center grip bar, and pulling the rack straight up.
  • Washing: The basket and basket rack should be washed with warm, soapy water, rinsed, and thoroughly dried with a towel for best results. Both components are also top-rack dishwasher-safe.
  • Unit Cleaning: The exterior and interior of the unit, including the heating coil, should be wiped down with a damp cloth as needed.
  • Prohibited Cleaning Methods: The main unit should never be placed in a dishwasher or submerged in water or any other liquid. Abrasive cleansers should not be used on the basket, rack, exterior, or interior, as they can damage the finishes.
  • Initial Use Odor/Smoke: During initial use, the unit may emit a slight odor or some smoke, which is normal and should quickly dissipate after a few uses. Black smoke, however, indicates a serious problem, requiring immediate unplugging and contact with customer service.
  • Storage: The TurboFry® Touch Air Fryer should be stored in a cool, dry place when not in use.

The Chefman TurboFry® Touch Air Fryer is designed to provide a convenient, efficient, and healthier way to enjoy crispy, delicious foods with minimal effort and easy cleanup.
