NOTE:Keepthebatteryconnectedwhileperformingthistestprocedure.
Thevoltagereadinglistedisforelectrolyteat70°F(21°C).Atlowerelectrolytetemperaturesthevoltage
readingwillbelower.
1.Ifnecessary,seeTestingBasics.
2.SettheForward/Neutral/Reversecontrol(FNR)toN.
3.SettheMaintenance/OperateswitchtoMAINTENANCE.
4.Putchocksagainstthewheels.
5.Setamultimeterto20VDC.
6.Putthered(+)probeontheF2(whitewire)terminalonthestarter/generator(Figure18-12).

7.Puttheblack(–)probeonthenegative(–)batterypost.
8.TurnthekeyswitchtoON.
9.MakesurethattheFNRisinN,andpushtheacceleratorpedal.
NOTE:Withtheacceleratorpedalpushed,thebatteryisunderload.
9.1.Ifthevoltagereadingisover9.6volts,withanelectrolytetemperatureof70°F(21°C),checkthe
starter/generator.
9.2.Ifthereadingisbelow9.6volts,withanelectrolytetemperatureof70°F(21°C),checkthebattery.
9.3.Ifthereadingiszero,theremaybenocontinuityacrossthelargepostsofthesolenoid.Checkthesolenoid.
9.4.Ifallofthetestresultsaregoodandthevoltagereadingiszero,theremaybeabrokenordamaged
whitewirefromthesolenoidtothestarter/generator.
10.Ifallofthetestresultsaregoodandthevoltagereadingiszero,theremaybeabrokenordamagedwhitewire
fromthesolenoidtothestarter/generator.
