Overview

The U6MIDI Pro is a professional USB MIDI interface and standalone MIDI router designed to provide compact, plug-and-play MIDI connectivity. It supports a wide range of devices, including USB-equipped Mac or Windows computers, iOS devices (via Apple USB Connectivity Kit), and Android tablets or phones (via Android OTG cable).

Function Description:

The U6MIDI Pro serves as both a USB MIDI interface and a standalone MIDI router. It features standard 5-pin MIDI ports, offering 3 MIDI IN and 3 MIDI OUT connections, supporting a total of 48 MIDI channels. The device is powered by a standard USB bus or USB power supply.

At its core, the U6MIDI Pro utilizes a 32-bit high-speed processing chip, ensuring fast transmission speeds for large MIDI data messages and achieving sub-millisecond latency and accuracy. When connected to a computer, it functions as a MIDI interface, allowing seamless communication between MIDI devices and your digital audio workstation (DAW).

In standalone mode, without a computer connection, the U6MIDI Pro transforms into a powerful MIDI merger, MIDI thru/splitter, and MIDI router. This functionality is enabled when powered via a standard USB charger or power bank. The device connects to all MIDI products with standard MIDI sockets, including synthesizers, MIDI controllers, keytars, electric wind instruments, v-accordions, electronic drums, electric pianos, portable keyboards, audio interfaces, and digital mixers.

Usage Features:

The U6MIDI Pro is designed for ease of use. For computer-based operation, simply connect the device via the provided USB cable to your computer or a USB hub. The computer's USB port will power the U6MIDI Pro, and it will be automatically detected. In different operating systems, it may appear as "U6MIDI Pro" or "USB audio device," followed by port numbers (0/1/2 or 1/2/3) and "IN/OUT."

For standalone use as a MIDI router, mapper, and filter, connect the interface to a standard USB charger or power bank using the matching USB cable. It is recommended to use a power bank with a "Low Power Charging mode" (typically for Bluetooth headphones) that does not have an automatic power-saving function to ensure continuous operation.

The device features a single button for specific functions:

  • Quick Press: Sends "all notes off" messages across all 16 MIDI channels per output port, eliminating unexpected long notes from external devices.
  • Press and Hold (5+ seconds): Resets the U6MIDI Pro to its factory default state.

The U6MIDI Pro's functionality can be customized using the free "UxMIDI Tools" software, available for macOS and Windows. This software enables:

  • MIDI Router Settings: Configure the signal flow of MIDI messages. All settings are automatically saved to the internal memory of the U6MIDI Pro.
  • MIDI Mapper Settings: Reassign (remap) input data according to custom rules. This feature requires firmware version 3.6 (or higher) and UxMIDI Tools software version 3.9 (or higher). All mapper settings are automatically saved.
  • MIDI Filter Settings: Block specific types of MIDI messages in selected input or output ports. All filter settings are automatically saved.
  • View Full Settings: Provides a convenient overview of all filter, mapper, and router settings for each port.
  • Firmware Upgrade: The software automatically detects and prompts for firmware updates when connected to the internet, ensuring access to the latest features. After an upgrade, restarting the U6MIDI Pro is recommended.
  • Settings Page: Allows selection of the CME USB MIDI hardware device model and port for configuration, especially useful when multiple CME USB MIDI devices are connected.

Maintenance Features:

To ensure the longevity and proper functioning of the U6MIDI Pro, several precautions and troubleshooting steps are outlined:

  • General Safety: Avoid connecting the instrument during a thunderstorm, placing cords or outlets in humid areas (unless specifically designed), touching bare parts of the power cord or connector when connected to AC, and exposing the instrument to rain or moisture.
  • Environmental Care: Keep the instrument away from electrical interference sources (fluorescent lights, electrical motors), dust, heat, and vibration. Do not expose it to direct sunlight, place heavy objects on it, or place containers with liquid on it. Avoid touching connectors with wet hands.
  • Troubleshooting (LED light not on):
    • Verify the USB plug is fully inserted into the computer or host device.
    • Ensure the connected computer or host device is powered on.
    • Confirm that the USB port of the connected host device supplies power (consult the device manufacturer if unsure).
  • Troubleshooting (Computer not receiving MIDI messages):
    • Check if the U6MIDI Pro is correctly selected as the MIDI IN device in your music software.
    • If custom MIDI routing was set up via UxMIDI Tools, try resetting the interface to factory defaults by pressing and holding the button for more than 5 seconds.
  • Troubleshooting (External sound module not responding):
    • Verify the U6MIDI Pro is correctly selected as the MIDI OUT device in your music software.
    • If custom MIDI routing was set up, try resetting the interface to factory defaults.
  • Troubleshooting (Sound module has long or scrambled notes):
    • This often indicates a MIDI loop. Check custom MIDI routing settings in UxMIDI Tools.
    • Try resetting the interface to factory defaults.
  • Standalone Mode Power: The U6MIDI Pro requires a USB power supply to operate, even in standalone mode. A standard 5V USB power source can replace a computer for this purpose.

CME provides a one-year standard Limited Warranty for the product, covering defects in workmanship and materials from the original purchase date. Proof of purchase is required for warranty service. The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, or damage caused by accident or abuse.
