To recover the system after hearing the FailSafe Boot Block
beeps, complete the following steps:
1. Turn off the Deskpro 4000N.
2. Connect a second computer to the Deskpro 4000N using
only a null modem cable connected to the serial ports on
the rear panels of both computers.
In order to use the second computer’s diskette drive as an
external diskette drive on the Deskpro 4000N, optional
FDS software must be installed on the second computer.
3. Turn on the second computer. With Windows running on
the second computer, run the FDS software.
4. Insert the ROMPaq diskette in the diskette drive on the
second computer.
5. Turn on the Deskpro 4000N.
6. Enter the setup password when prompted to do so.
If the setup password is entered correctly, the ROMPaq
utility will take over and run the flash ROM upgrade on the
Deskpro 4000N.
If the setup password is incorrectly entered, the procedure
will terminate and no changes will be made to the ROM.
Do not turn off the power to your computer until the
ROMPaq utility has completed the upgrade process.
7. When the utility finishes upgrading the ROM, remove the
diskette from the diskette drive, turn off both computers,
and disconnect the second computer from the Deskpro
4000N.
8. Restart the Deskpro 4000N.
The following table lists the various keyboard light
combinations, as well as the meaning and actions associated
with each combination.
