• What is the World
Wide Web?
The World Wide Web is part of the Internet. Several decades
ago, the U.S. military began developing the Internet. It wasn’t
long before academic and industrial researchers began using it
to share data.
Vast numbers of new computer users stimulated Internet

businesses now use their computers to communicate
through this system.
What is the Internet?
The Internet is a communications system for computers.
Cables, phone lines, and radios connect huge numbers of
computers around the world. These connections allow many
simultaneous public and private communications.
The Internet does not have an owner or manager. It is aco-
operative effort between individuals, private organisations,
universities, businesses, and governments.
