Pentium II Processor & Goalposts
This page shows the removal and replacement procedure for a Pentium II processor.

Perform preparation
procedures.

Remove the hood.

Remove the fax/modem.
4
Open the system board
bracket.
5
Locate the Pentium II
processor.
CAUTION
The processor
may still be
very hot if the
computer has
been running
recently.

If necessary, open the top
lever of the heat sink clip to
release the heat sink
.
7
Push in the release tabs on
the ends of the processor
"goalposts"
.
8
Unplug the processor from
the system board and slide
out of the goalposts
.

Alternative goalposts
To replace the Pentium II
processor, reverse the procedure
above.
IMPORTANT:
Ensure that
the processor
is properly
aligned in the
goalposts
before
plugging it
into the
system board.
CAUTION: Before
installing a new
processor, see
Jumper and Switch
Information to reset
the jumpers for the
processor. If the
processor is installed
with the incorrect
jumper settings, the
processor and
system board may be
damaged.
