SafeHandling of Gasoline
Toavoidpersonalinjuryor propertydamageuseextremecare in
handlinggasoline.Gasolineis extremelyflammableandthe vaporsare
explosive.Seriouspersonalinjurycanoccurwhengasolineis spilled
onyourselfor yourclotheswhichcan ignite. Washyour skinand
changeclothesimmediately.
• Useonlyan approvedgasolinecontainer.
• Extinguishallcigarettes,cigars,pipesandother sourcesof
ignition.
• Neverfuelmachineindoors.
• Neverremovegascapor addfuel whilethe engineis hotor
running.
• Allowenginetocoolat leasttwo minutesbeforerefueling.
• Neveroverfillfueltank. Fill tankto nomorethan1/2inchbelow
bottomof filler necktoprovidespaceforfuelexpansion.
• Replacegasolinecapandtightensecurely.
• Ifgasolineisspilled,wipe it off theengineandequipment.Move
machinetoanotherarea.Wait5 minutesbeforestartingthe
engine.
• Neverstorethemachineorfuel containerinsidewherethereis an
openflame,sparkor pilotlight(e.g.furnace,waterheater,space
heater,clothesdryeretc.).
• Allowmachinetocool at least5 minutesbeforestoring.
• Neverfillcontainersinsidea vehicleor ona truckor trailerbed
witha plasticliner.Alwaysplacecontainersonthe groundaway
fromyourvehiclebeforefilling.
• If possible,removegas-poweredequipmentfromthe truckor
trailerandrefuelitonthe ground.Ifthis is not possible,then refuel
suchequipmenton a trailerwitha portablecontainer,ratherthan
froma gasolinedispensernozzle.
• Keepthenozzlein contactwiththe rimof thefuel tankor
containeropeningatalltimes untilfuelingis complete.Do notuse
a nozzlelock-opendevice.
OPERATION
• Donot puthandsorfeetnear rotatingparts,in the auger/impeller
housingor chuteassembly.Contactwiththerotatingpartscan
amputatehandsandfeet.
• Theauger/impellercontrolleverisa safetydevice.Neverbypass
itsoperation.Doingso makesthe machineunsafeandmaycause
personalinjury.
• Thecontrolleversmustoperateeasilyin bothdirectionsand
automaticallyreturntothe disengagedpositionwhenreleased.
• Neveroperatewitha missingor damagedchuteassembly.Keep
all safetydevicesin placeandworking.
• Neverrunanengineindoorsor ina poorlyventilatedarea. Engine
exhaustcontainscarbonmonoxide,anodorlessanddeadlygas.
• Donotoperatemachinewhileunderthe influenceof alcoholor
drugs.
• Mufflerandenginebecomehotandcan causea burn.Donot
touch.Keepchildrenaway.
• Exerciseextremecautionwhenoperatingon orcrossinggravel
surfaces.Stayalertfor hiddenhazardsor traffic.
Exercisecautionwhenchangingdirectionandwhileoperatingon
slopes.Donotoperateon steepslopes.
Planyoursnow-throwingpatternto avoiddischargetowards
windows,walls,carsetc.Thus,avoidingpossibleproperty
damageor personalinjurycausedbya ricochet.
Neverdirectdischargeatchildren,bystandersand petsor allow
anyoneinfrontofthe machine.
Donotoverloadmachinecapacitybyattemptingto clearsnowat
toofastof a rate.
Neveroperatethis machinewithoutgoodvisibilityorlight.Always
be sureofyourfootingand keepa firmholdon thehandles.Walk,
neverrun.
Disengagepowertotheauger/impellerwhentransportingor not
in use.
Neveroperatemachineathightransportspeedson slippery
surfaces.Lookdownand behindand usecare whenbackingup.
Ifthemachineshouldstartto vibrateabnormally,stoptheengine,
disconnectthesparkplugwire andgroundit againsttheengine.
Inspectthoroughlyfordamage.Repairanydamagebefore
startingandoperating.
Disengageall controlleversandstopenginebeforeyouleave
theoperatingposition(behindthehandles).Waituntilthe auger/
impellercomesto a completestopbeforeuncloggingthechute
assembly,makingany adjustments,or inspections.
Neverputyourhandinthe dischargeor collectoropenings.Do
notunclogchuteassemblywhileengineis running.Shutoff
engineand remainbehindhandlesuntilall movingpartshave
stoppedbeforeunclogging.
Useonlyattachmentsandaccessoriesapprovedby themanufac-
turer(e.g.wheelweights,tire chains,cabsetc.). Forinformation

Whenstartingengine,pullcord slowlyuntilresistanceis felt,then
pull rapidly.Rapidretractionofstartercord(kickback)willpull
handandarmtowardenginefasterthanyoucan let go.Broken
bones,fractures,bruisesor sprainscould result.

CLEARING A CLOGGED DISCHARGE CHUTE
Handcontactwiththe rotatingimpellerinsidethedischargechute
is themostcommoncauseofinjuryassociatedwithsnowthrowers.
Neveruseyourhandto cleanout thedischargechute.
Toclearthechute:
1. SHUTTHEENGINEOFF!
2. Wait 10secondstobe surethe impellerbladeshavestopped
rotating.
3. Alwaysusea clean-outtool,not yourhands.
4
