GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS

Overview

The Crumar Seventeen and Seventeen "Parsifal" are high-quality digital musical instruments, entirely conceived, developed, and built in Italy. They are designed to bridge the gap between digital and real instruments, offering a sound and feel as close to the real thing as possible. This manual covers both variations, which share the same operating system, though they have differences in pre-installed factory sounds and physical characteristics.

Function Description:

The Crumar Seventeen and Seventeen "Parsifal" are digital pianos that feature two primary synthesis engines:

  • Tine Electric Piano: This engine provides a 100% physically modeled simulation of the famous Rhodes Electric Piano, capable of emulating various Mark I, Mark II, and Mark V models. Users can adjust numerous parameters to fine-tune the sound, including type variations, wood level, felt level, release level, hammer tips hardness, bite and bark aggressiveness, metallic component, sympathetic resonances, pickup offset, hi-pass filter, and pedal noise level.
  • Sample Playback: This engine utilizes the GSP-01 sample player, which plays custom Crumar and GSi sample sets. These sets are primarily dedicated to acoustic grand pianos (like D-274, C5, CFX), electro-acoustic and electro-mechanical pianos (Reed EP, DX EP, Clavi EP, MKS EP+ AP), felt pianos, vibraphones, and harpsichords. The samples are loop-free, often using 6 to 12 velocity layers, and incorporate physical modeling for added resonances and interactions between strings, pedals, and wood. Parameters for sampled material include level, attack time, release time, filter (low-pass), MIDI velocity response, piano resonance level (for piano samples), release sample level, and pedal noise sample level.

Beyond the core sound engines, the instruments include a comprehensive effects section:

  • FX1: Offers Tremolo, Stereo auto-panner, LFO Wah Wah, and Dynamic (auto) Wah Wah. Common parameters are Depth and Speed.
  • FX2: Provides Stereo Chorus, Stereo Flanger, Stereo Phaser 1 (4 stages), and Stereo Phaser 2 (6 stages). Common parameters are Depth and Speed.
  • AMP Simulator: Emulates five well-known guitar and bass amplifiers (TWIN, AC30, JCM, JAZZ CHORUS, BASS amp), each with adjustable overdrive.
  • DELAY: Features Level, Time, Feedback, and selectable Mono or Ping-Pong types.
  • DIGITAL REVERB: A high-quality reverb with Level, Decay, and nine different emulation types: DEFAULT, HALL 1 & 2, STUDIO, ROOM, STADIUM, TUNNEL, CHURCH, and CATHEDRAL.
  • EQUALIZATION: A 3-band semi-parametric equalizer with adjustable Bass, Treble, Middle, and Middle Frequency.

Usage Features:

The instrument's front panel serves as the main interface for all operations, from performance controls to deep sound editing and global settings.

  • Performance Mode: The default mode upon power-on, displaying the sound name, bank/preset number, FX1/FX2 status (including effect type if ON), AMP simulator status, and transpose amount. Transpose can be adjusted directly in performance mode by holding the EXIT button and turning the value encoder (+/- 7 semitones).
  • Edit Mode: Accessed by pressing the "EDIT" button. Navigation is intuitive, using the value encoder to scroll through options and the "EDIT" button (Enter/Yes) to select. The "EXIT" button (Back/No) returns to the previous menu or exits edit mode entirely.
  • Presets Management: Users can move presets, store custom modified sounds, and import/export presets via a FAT32 formatted USB dongle connected to the SYSTEM USB port. A quick "overwrite" function is available by holding the "EDIT" button in performance mode.
  • Expansions Management: Additional sampled content can be installed from a USB drive. The instrument displays available free memory for expansions. Factory sounds cannot be uninstalled.
  • System Settings: Includes options for firmware updates and factory reset.

Maintenance Features:

  • Firmware Update: New firmware releases can be downloaded from www.crumar.it, transferred to a compatible USB drive, and installed via the SYSTEM USB port. Users are advised to read documentation accompanying firmware updates.
  • Factory Reset: This irreversible operation restores the instrument to its original factory state, erasing all user-defined presets, settings, and installed expansions (except for firmware updates). A confirmation is required before execution.
  • Packaging: Users are advised to keep all original packaging for potential transport to a service center.
  • Cleaning: Do not use abrasive cleaners or thinner on metal surfaces.
  • General Care: Avoid placing heavy loads on the instrument. The "Tolex-style" covering (on the 73-key model) is for aesthetics and does not provide shock protection; cuts and bumps are not covered by warranty. The plastic CRUMAR badge (if present) is fragile.
  • Service: Do not open the instrument; repairs should only be performed by qualified personnel to avoid voiding the warranty. In case of liquid infiltration, immediately remove power and contact a Crumar service center.
  • Power: The instrument is compatible with mains voltages between 100 Vac and 240 Vac. Do not touch the AC cord with wet hands.
