The Decibel dB 32 is a CRYSTAL brand device, version 4.0, designed to manage and facilitate various telecommunication functions within an office or similar environment. It offers a comprehensive suite of features for internal and external call handling, call management, security, and personal productivity.
The device provides basic call handling capabilities, including Intercom Calls for internal extension-to-extension communication. To make an intercom call, a user simply lifts the handset, dials the desired extension number, and begins conversation once the other party answers. If an extension is busy, the user receives a busy tone and can either try again later or utilize the "Auto Call Back" function.
For Trunk / JN Calls, which are external calls, users can access specific junction lines (L1, L2, etc.) by dialing an access code (e.g., 601 to 606 or 0, 5) after lifting the handset. After hearing the trunk line tone, the desired outside number can be dialed. If a busy tone is encountered after dialing the junction access code, the "Auto Call Back" function can be used. An "Error Tone" indicates that the extension is locked for outgoing calls. By default, all junction lines are programmed in group "0".
The Last No. Redial feature allows users to redial the last external number dialed by lifting the handset and pressing '#'. It's important not to use the phone's dedicated "REDIAL" key for this function.
Answering / Receiving Calls is straightforward: when an extension rings, the user lifts the handset to answer.
Call Pick Up is available in two forms:
Auto Call Back is a crucial feature that eliminates the need to redial busy extensions or junctions.
Call Transfer allows users to transfer a call either during a conversation with a second extension or blindly.
Call Camp (Junction Incoming Call Transfer to a busy extension) enables transferring an incoming call to a busy extension (one already in conversation). The busy extension receives a call waiting beep-beep tone.
Call Camp Pick Up allows users to answer a camped call when they are already in conversation and hear a call camp beep-beep tone.
Call Park allows temporarily putting aside a current call (junction or internal) or multiple calls, freeing up the extension. Calls can be retrieved randomly or selectively.
Do Not Disturb (DND) prevents incoming calls. To enable, lift the handset and dial '725'. While DND is active, other extensions calling will get an error tone. A broken dial tone is heard on the DND-enabled extension, but outgoing calls can still be made normally. To cancel DND, lift the handset and dial '720'.
Call Forward redirects calls to another pre-assigned extension.
Follow Me allows users to redirect all their calls to another desired extension when they are away from their own. To enable, from the desired extension, lift the handset and dial '722 + XX + YYYY' (where XX is the user's own extension number and YYYY is the self-password). A broken dial tone is heard on the enabled extension. This function is active only after the personal password (default 1111) has been changed. To cancel, from the user's own extension, lift the handset and dial '720'.
Barge-In (With Warning Tone) enables conveying a priority message to a busy extension. If the desired extension is busy, dial '83' during the busy tone. A 2-second beep-beep tone will be heard before intercepting the conversation. Barge-in does not work if the busy extension is in dialing, ringing, or conference mode.
Call Toggle allows switching between a current call (intercom/junction) and a second call on hold. This involves similar steps to barge-in, but after starting conversation, pressing Flash + Dial '1' toggles the calls.
Monitor allows monitoring conversations between two extensions without any indication (short beeps) to the busy extensions. If the desired extension is busy, dial '80' during the busy tone. After 1 second, the call can be monitored.
Hotline Extn. / Jn. is useful for repeatedly calling a particular extension or junction.
Conference (Three Parties) allows a user to conference with two other parties (extensions or junctions).
Day/Night/Lunch Mode sets landing modes for incoming calls.
Dynamic Lock protects against misuse of outgoing trunk calls from an extension. Extensions are automatically locked based on a defined Class of Service (COS) level after a specified delay time.
Alarm provides various alarm functions.
Global Memory Dialing allows access to 450 central memory locations (88101 to 88995) for external calls. Each location can store up to 16 digits (including STD/ISD codes). To use, lift the handset and dial any memory location. Refer to the programming manual for setting Global Memory Locations.
The device provides CLI (DTMF SIGNAL) features if a caller ID telephone set is used:
The manual emphasizes that all System Programming can only be done in Main Password mode from any extension in tone/DTMF mode at the site. This implies a level of security and control over system configurations. The cancellation procedures for various features (Auto Call Back, DND, Call Forward, Follow Me, Hotline, Daily Alarm) are clearly outlined, allowing users to manage their settings effectively. The ability to change the Dynamic Lock password also contributes to user-level security.
