Overview

The Datalogic HandScanner is a wearable barcode scanner designed for efficient data capture in various environments. It comes in two main variants: the HandScanner MR (mid-range) and the HandScanner SR (standard range), each optimized for different scanning distances.

Function Description:

The HandScanner's primary function is to read and transmit barcode data. It is designed to be worn on the hand, typically attached to a Hand Trigger, allowing for hands-free operation and improved workflow efficiency. The device can connect to an end device via several methods, including Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) HID, a Datalogic Gateway, or through the Datalogic Insight Mobile app. Once connected, it scans barcodes when the user presses a textile trigger, and the captured data is then transmitted to the paired device.

Technical Specifications (based on available information):

  • Scanning Range:
    • HandScanner SR (Standard Range): Optimized for distances between 3.9 and 31.5 inches (10-80 cm).
    • HandScanner MR (Mid Range): Optimized for distances between 11.8 and 59 inches (30-150 cm).
  • Connectivity:
    • Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) HID for direct pairing with compatible devices.
    • Datalogic Gateway for centralized data collection and network integration.
    • Insight Mobile App for mobile device integration and configuration.
  • Power: Rechargeable battery.
  • Charging: Via Datalogic Charging Station. A full charge takes approximately 2 hours. A minimum of 20 minutes of charging is recommended if the battery is low.
  • Wearable Components:
    • Hand Trigger: Available in S, M, L sizes. Features a trigger located on the index finger, designed to be clipped on either the left or right hand.
  • Barcode Suffix (Standard Setting): Enter (CR)
  • Certifications: 2014/53/EU Radio Equipment Directive (RED), 2011/65/EU Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), CE compliant.

Usage Features:

  • Quick Start Guide:
    • Insertion: The HandScanner is easily inserted into the Hand Trigger by sliding it into place until it clicks.
    • Activation: To activate the HandScanner, the textile trigger on the Hand Trigger must be pressed for approximately 2 seconds.
    • Pairing: The device offers three pairing options:
      1. Via BLE HID: Scan a dedicated BLE HID pairing barcode.
      2. Via Datalogic Gateway: Scan a pairing barcode located on the top of the Datalogic Gateway.
      3. Via Insight Mobile: Open the "Insight Mobile" app on a mobile device and scan a pairing barcode displayed within the app.
    • Scanning: Once paired, simply aim the HandScanner at a barcode and press the textile trigger to scan. The crosshairs (for mid-range) or scan dot (for standard range) will illuminate to assist with aiming.
    • Release: To remove the HandScanner from the Hand Trigger, press between the HandScanner and the fastening rail, then push the HandScanner up slightly and forward, ensuring not to scratch over the pins.
  • Ergonomics: Designed for hands-free operation, enhancing user comfort and productivity. The Hand Trigger's adjustable sizing (S, M, L) and ambidextrous clip (left or right) ensure a comfortable fit for various users.

Maintenance Features:

  • Charging: The HandScanner is charged by inserting it into the Datalogic Charging Station with the pins facing down. A full charge takes about 2 hours. If the battery symbol flashes red, indicating low charge, it should be charged for at least 20 minutes.
  • Troubleshooting:
    • Not Reacting/Scanning:
      • Battery Not Charged: Charge the HandScanner in the Datalogic Charging Station for at least 20 minutes.
      • Defective Hand Trigger: Replace the Hand Trigger.
    • Scans Badly:
      • Dirty Glass: Clean the HandScanner glass with a cotton swab.
      • Incorrect Scanning Distance: Adjust the HandScanner's position relative to the barcode label. For standard range, the optimal distance is 3.9-31.5 inches (10-80 cm). For mid-range, it's 11.8-59 inches (30-150 cm).
      • Unreadable Barcode: Create a new barcode label if the existing one is damaged or unreadable.
    • No Barcode Data Transmission:
      • Not Connected: Ensure the HandScanner is connected to the end device. This involves scanning the appropriate pairing barcode (on the end device, Datalogic Gateway, or Insight Mobile App) and waiting for the HandScanner to light up blue twice briefly, indicating a successful connection.
  • Hard Reset: If other troubleshooting steps fail, a hard reset can be performed:
    1. Insert the HandScanner into the Hand Trigger.
    2. Hold the trigger pressed for about 15 seconds.
    3. Release the trigger.
    4. Press the trigger again for about 2 seconds to reactivate the HandScanner.

The Datalogic HandScanner is a robust and user-friendly device designed to streamline barcode scanning operations, offering flexibility in connectivity and ease of maintenance.
