New Installation
1. Determine the mounting location. The plate allows flexible, yet sturdy
mounting to a countertop, table, wall, or even under a counter. While
deciding on the best position, you might want to keep in mind the
best way to route the scanner cable (you may need to drill a hole for
it).

Overview

The Magellan™ 1100i Fixed Mounting Plate is an accessory designed to provide a secure and versatile mounting solution for the Magellan™ 1100i scanner. This sturdy plate enables the scanner to be installed in various positions, accommodating both new installations and integration into existing systems.

Function Description

The primary function of the fixed mounting plate is to securely hold the Magellan™ 1100i scanner in place, allowing for stable operation in different environments. It acts as an interface between the scanner and the mounting surface, ensuring that the scanner remains in its intended position during use. The design facilitates flexible placement, making the scanner adaptable to various retail or industrial setups.

Usage Features

The mounting plate offers several usage features that enhance its versatility and ease of installation:

  • Flexible Mounting Positions: The plate supports mounting the scanner in multiple orientations, including on a countertop, table, wall, or even under a counter. This flexibility allows users to optimize the scanner's position based on workflow requirements, space constraints, and ergonomic considerations.
  • New Installation Process: For new setups, users first determine the optimal mounting location. The plate's design allows for flexible yet sturdy attachment. During this decision-making process, it is recommended to consider the best route for the scanner's cable, which might involve drilling a hole for proper cable management. Once the location is chosen, the plate is securely fastened using two screws provided in the kit, driven down through the plate into the desired surface.
  • Existing Installation Compatibility: A key feature of this mounting plate is its compatibility with existing installations. It has been designed to align with the hole patterns already drilled for a scanner being replaced. This means that in many cases, users can simply push new screws up through the existing holes to secure the new mounting plate, replacing the old unit without needing to drill new holes. If the existing screw pattern does not match, the plate can still be installed using the new installation instructions. This feature significantly simplifies upgrades and replacements, reducing installation time and effort.
  • Secure Latching Mechanism: The plate incorporates a robust latching mechanism to secure the scanner. To latch the scanner, the front latches are engaged first. Then, the rear of the scanner is rotated down onto the stand until it secures into the rear latch. This two-step process ensures a firm and stable connection between the scanner and the mounting plate, preventing accidental dislodgement during operation.
  • Easy Unlatching for Maintenance or Repositioning: When the scanner needs to be removed from the mounting plate for maintenance, repositioning, or replacement, the unlatching process is straightforward. Users grasp the scanner and rotate its rear upwards and away from the stand. This action disengages the rear latch. Subsequently, the opposite end of the scanner is moved away from the front latches, allowing for complete removal. This ease of unlatching is crucial for efficient field service and operational flexibility.
  • Cable Management Consideration: Although not explicitly a feature of the plate itself, the instructions emphasize considering cable routing during installation. This highlights the importance of integrated design thinking, where the mounting solution facilitates a neat and functional setup, preventing cable clutter and potential damage.

Maintenance Features

While the mounting plate itself requires minimal maintenance, its design indirectly supports scanner maintenance and longevity:

  • Facilitates Scanner Access: The easy unlatching mechanism allows for quick removal of the scanner from the plate. This is beneficial for cleaning the scanner's scanning window, performing routine checks, or troubleshooting without needing to unscrew the entire mounting plate from the surface.
  • Durable Construction: The description refers to the plate as "sturdy," implying a robust construction designed to withstand the rigors of daily use in various environments. This inherent durability contributes to the overall reliability of the scanner setup, reducing the need for frequent replacement or repair of the mounting hardware.
  • Streamlined Replacement: In the event that the scanner itself needs to be replaced, the mounting plate's compatibility with existing hole patterns and its easy latching/unlatching mechanism make the swap-out process efficient. This minimizes downtime and ensures continuity of operations.

In summary, the Magellan™ 1100i Fixed Mounting Plate is a well-designed accessory that provides a secure, flexible, and user-friendly solution for integrating the Magellan™ 1100i scanner into diverse operational settings. Its focus on ease of installation, secure attachment, and convenient removal enhances the overall usability and maintainability of the scanner system.
