This document is the owner's manual for Dometic Gravity Discharge Toilets, specifically covering the Dometic 500 Plus Series, 2000 Series, and Model 111 Toilets.
Function Description:
These Dometic toilets are gravity discharge units designed for use in recreational vehicles (RVs), boats, and other applications where a self-contained sanitation system is required. They are engineered to discharge directly into a holding tank, and unlike conventional residential or commercial plumbing systems, they cannot accommodate horizontal pipe runs. The toilets utilize a foot pedal for flushing, which controls both water addition to the bowl and the opening of a flush ball mechanism to allow waste to pass into the holding tank. A key design feature is the positive sealing around the flush ball when the pedal snaps back, ensuring effective containment of odors and waste.
Important Technical Specifications:
The manual provides dimensional specifications for various models:
- Model 511+: 17 1/4-inch [438mm] width (including flush pedal), 20 1/2-inch [521mm] depth, 14 5/8-inch [371mm] height to the top of the bowl, and 13-inch [330mm] height to the seat.
- Model 510+: 15 1/4-inch [387mm] width, 20 1/2-inch [521mm] depth, 18 3/4-inch [476mm] height to the top of the bowl, and 17 1/8-inch [435mm] height to the seat.
- Model 111: 17 1/4-inch [438mm] width, 19 1/2-inch [495mm] depth, 12 1/8-inch [308mm] height to the top of the bowl, and 14-inch [356mm] height to the seat.
- Model 2011: 17-inch [432mm] width (including flush pedal), 19 7/8-inch [505mm] depth, 13 3/8-inch [340mm] height to the top of the bowl, and 12 3/8-inch [314mm] height to the seat.
- Model 2010: 15-inch [381mm] width, 19 7/8-inch [505mm] depth, 17 1/2-inch [445mm] height to the top of the bowl, and 16 1/2-inch [419mm] height to the seat.
All dimensions may vary by ± 3/8-inch (10mm).
The toilet requires a minimum water flow rate of 2 gpm (7.6 lpm) at the inlet for proper flushing.
The toilets are designed to accept standard 7/16" open end wrench for tightening nuts during installation.
Usage Features:
- Flushing Mechanism: A foot pedal controls the flushing action. Lifting or raising the pedal adds water to the bowl. Pushing the pedal all the way down opens the flush ball, allowing contents to leave the bowl. Holding the pedal down for 4-8 seconds may be required for complete flushing, depending on water pressure. The pedal should snap back to ensure a positive seal.
- Water Level Control: Users can control the amount of water added to the bowl by how long they lift the flush pedal. More water is generally needed for flushing solids.
- Model Compatibility: Dometic toilet models 111, 510, and 511 can accept handicap or household decorative seats, allowing for customization.
- Installation: The manual provides detailed instructions for installation, including replacing older toilets, securing the floor flange, positioning the floor seal, setting the toilet, connecting the water supply, and attaching pedestal and pedal covers. It also mentions the availability of a SeaLand Universal Mounting Kit for situations where the old floor flange cannot be used or removed.
- Deodorants and Special Tissue: The use of a deodorant product is required to reduce holding tank odors and break down contents. Liquid or granulated deodorants are discussed, with liquids dissolving faster and granulated powders offering storage advantages. Deodorant is added directly to the bowl and flushed. The manual emphasizes the use of SeaLand tissue, which is designed for low-water systems and rapid dissolving properties, to prevent clogging that can occur with household tissues containing adhesives.
Maintenance Features:
- Regular Cleaning: The manual stresses the importance of regular cleaning and winterization to maintain warranty coverage.
- Bowl Cleaning: For routine cleaning, SeaLand Toilet Bowl Cleaner or other non-abrasive bathroom and toilet bowl cleaners (e.g., Bar Keeper's Friend, Clorox, Sani-Flush) are recommended. Users are explicitly warned not to use abrasives (Comet, Soft Scrub), caustic chemicals (Drano), or lubricants/cleaners containing alcohols or petroleum distillates (Pam cooking spray, Pine-Sol, WD-40) as these can damage the seals.
- Flush Ball Cleaning: Mineral deposits can build up on the flush ball and seal, leading to slow water leaks. Periodic cleaning involves slowly pressing and releasing the flush pedal to loosen debris, or using a soft bristle brush and SeaLand Toilet Bowl Cleaner for more stubborn buildup. The top of the flush ball and the area under the seal should be cleaned.
- Winterization and Storage: For periods of storage or when temperatures may drop below freezing, the toilet must be winterized.
- Non-toxic Antifreeze Method (Recommended): Pour non-toxic antifreeze (propylene glycol, not automotive-type ethylene glycol) into the potable water tank and flush the toilet several times until antifreeze flows through the unit. If equipped with a hand sprayer, it must also be cycled.
- Drain Water Method: Turn off the water supply, disconnect the water supply line from the water valve, and press the flush pedal to allow water to completely drain from the water valve and vacuum breaker. The water line should remain disconnected until freezing temperatures are no longer a threat.
- Troubleshooting Guide: A comprehensive guide is included to help diagnose and resolve common issues such as odor emission, water not staying in the bowl, incomplete flush ball closure, water not shutting off, hand spray unit leaks, insufficient water flow, water valve leaks, leaks from the bottom of the toilet base, leaks from the rear of the toilet bowl, and leaks from the base/toilet connection. This guide lists possible causes and corresponding service instructions, including tightening screws, cleaning components, replacing seals, lubricating parts, and checking water flow rates.
- Service Tip: A method for locating water leaks using toilet tissue is provided. By wiping seams and waterline connections with tissue, changes in texture can indicate the source of a leak.
Dometic Corporation offers a two-year limited warranty to the original purchaser for defects in material and workmanship for personal, family, or household-like use. The ceramic portion of the toilet bowl has a ten-year warranty against discoloration, staining, scratching, or crazing under the same conditions, provided it is regularly cleaned as described in the manual. For commercial or business use, the warranty period is ninety days. The warranty does not cover damages from improper installation, neglect, abuse, alteration, unauthorized components, or failure to follow winterization or cleaning procedures. All implied warranties are limited to one year (ninety days for commercial use).
