1 PHOTOCELL ENCODER SETUP

When the leading edge of each product passes the photocell on the production line, the
photocell sends an input to the controller. The input remains active until the trailing edge of the
product has passed the photocell. The the product length is saved in the label's settings. The
controller uses the calculation below to identify the production line speed:
Speed = Product length ¸ Photocell Active Time

To use this feature, each product must be the same size. If the product sizes
change, use a 2 photocell encoder setup, see 2 Photocell Encoder Setup on
page 77.
2. The length of the product is set in the labels "Box width (mm)" setting. see
Label Defaults on page 101.

A single photocell encoder may not work well if the speed of the production
line changes often. If the speed of the production line can change, use a 2
photocell encoder setup, see 2 Photocell Encoder Setup on page 77.

To use a photocell encoder, ensure the "Print speed mode" of labels that are
sent to the print group is set to "External". see Label Settings on page 134.

The print speed of the first label is set by the label's "Production speed (m/
min)" setting. see Label Settings on page 134.
To setup a single photocell encoder:
1.
If the print group is active, stop the print group. Select STOP, select the print group and
select Stop.

Make sure a photocell encoder is correctly connected to one of the controller's product
detect inputs:
