5. START-UP PROCEDURE
DO NOT operate the winch until all conditions in previous sections have been
completed.
y Disconnect hoses at motor ports and fill with oil to ensure lubrication while motor
first turns over
y Back-off main relief valve to avoid chance of immediate danger to motor and
system in case of incorrect hook-up
y Run motor for 2 to 3 minutes in haul in direction (low pressure) to check that
everything is functioning correctly
y Operate motor for 2 to 3 minutes in pay out direction. The pressure should be
approximately 700-800 psi
y Bleed brake piston of air
y Check that oil circulation flow from ‘Port P’ is between 2 and 3 gpm and that the
pressure is less than 10 psi
y Check that when the control valve is placed in the neutral position after operating
in the pay out direction, the pressure returns immediately to zero (i.e. oil returns to
tank and brake applies)
y Install the cable onto winch drum using ferrule provided (see following section).
Operator of winch must ensure that a minimum of five (5) dead
wraps of cable are maintained on the drum at all times.
