2 Description
2.1 Product overview
The Dräger Valve Guide is a protection bracket that is made using a formed
stainless steel rod. The guide is mounted on the bottom of the backplate and
protrudes out below the cylinder valve.
The Valve Guide is supplied with plastic shims that are profiled to provide a flat
surface for fitting the guide on to the curved surface of the backplate. Because
of the profiled shape and offset holes, each of the shims will only fit in its
intended position and is marked with L (left) or R (right). The shims are also
used as templates for drilling the holes in the correct positions backplate (a
pre-drilled backplate is available from Dräger).
The product is supplied as a kit with the following items:
1 Valve Guide
4 Shims
6 M5 x 20 screws
6 M5 flat washers
6 M5 self-locking nuts
2.2 Intended use
The Valve Guide is intended to protect the cylinder valve against contact
damage, particularly during use in a confined space or dragging. The guide is
an accessory that fits on to the backplate of a Dräger PSS 7000 or PSS 5000
breathing apparatus.
3 Fitting the Valve Guide
WARNING
Fitting the Valve Guide may only be carried out by trained personnel
(attendance at an appropriate Dräger maintenance course is
required). Fitting by untrained personnel could make the breathing
equipment unsafe for use.
Tools required
4 mm hexagon key
8 mm socket or spanner
Drill and 5.5 mm drill bit
Because each of the shims will only fit in its intended position, the shims are
labelled as L (left) or R (right). The L and R labels refer to the left or right side
of the breathing apparatus as it is worn (Fig 1).
1. Referring to the breathing apparatus Instructions for Use, remove the
cylinder if fitted.
2. Place the breathing apparatus on a flat level surface with the waist pad
uppermost.
3. Align the larger shims on the inside of the backplate and mark the
backplate (Fig 2). The figure shows the left (L) shim.
4. Drill the six holes using a 5.5 mm drill bit.
5. Align the shims and the guide and fit the six screws as shown (Fig 3 and 4).
4 Using the breathing apparatus
Fitting a Valve Guide does not affect the operation of the breathing apparatus.
Continue to refer to the breathing apparatus Instructions for Use for all normal
operation and use instructions (use, maintenance, cleaning, storage, etc.).
