into nose. Wrap the cannula tubing over the ears and position in front of body
(
(see Fig. E).
CAUTION: To help prevent possible damage to the unit and to maintain its cleanliness
, keep the SmartDose
in a carrying bag. Several bags are
available for use with different cylinder sizes and configurations: contact your
Home Care provider for more information about carry bags.
NOTE: If the SmartDose is in Continuous Flow mode, 2 LPM of oxygen will still be delivered. The conserver must
be powered off & the CF switch pushed in to completely turn off the flow of oxygen.
NOTE: When you are finished using the SmartDose simply remove the cannula tubing. After 5 minutes of inactivity,
the unit will power itself down. The unit quickly opens and closes the valves 3 times thirty seconds before powering
down to alert you that it is about to shut down. In the event that you have simply been mouth breathing, this should
alert you that the unit has not seen a breath and will be shutting down. Close cylinder valve when not in use.
STEP 10
:
When not in use, store in a clean, dry location.
STEP
9
: Remove the nasal cannula.
The conserver will now start to deliver oxygen. The amount of oxygen delivered per pulse is determined
by the setting
. A sound may be heard each time the unit delivers a pulse of oxygen.
Adequate saturation
will be achieved because of the precise time in the breathing cycle
in which
thepulse of oxygen is
delivered.
STEP 4: Check the oxygen pressure gauge to verify that the oxygen cylinder pressure is within the operating range.
STEP 6:
Ensure cannula is properly attached to the SmartDose conserver.
STEP 7:
Properly position the cannula with the nasal prongs facing upward and insert the prongs
STEP 8: When finished using the system, close the oxygen cylinder valve and continue breathing through the
nasal cannula until no further oxygen is detected and the gauge reads “empty” or "zero (0)".
NOTE: To check your current setting, press and release the SmartDose On/Adjust Button. Set the
information signal light to your prescribed setting (1 to 5). Be sure that the CF (Continuous Flow/SmartDose
switch is pushed in as shown, confirming that your SmartDose conserver is in SmartDose mode (See Fig. B).
STEP 5:
Turn on the SmartDose by pressing and holding the On/Adjust button until all of the numerical LEDs (1 through 5)
light up. The SmartDose indicates it is ready by pulsing three times.
