This document is a user manual for the DDG 1220 "BEAST" Dynamic Diamond Grinder, available in both electric and propane versions. It provides comprehensive information on the machine's specifications, safety, operation, and maintenance.
Function Description
The DDG 1220 is a floor-grinding machine designed for grinding horizontal surfaces. It is used with tooling plates approved by Dynamic Diamond Tooling. The machine is designed for professional use in various grinding applications, including surface preparation, concrete polishing, and removal of coatings. The "BEAST" branding and a wolf graphic on the cover suggest a powerful and robust machine.

Usage Features
The DDG 1220 is designed for user-friendly operation with several adjustable features:
- Operator Control Panel: Ergonomically fitted with controls for rotation direction (L/R switch), grinding speed (SPEED CONTROL knob), START button, and STOP button.
- Head Leveling System: Allows the grinding head to be leveled with the grinding surface using an adjustment nut and a level indicator bubble. This ensures consistent grinding results across various tooling types.
- Handle Height Adjustment: An adjustment-locking pin allows the operator to position the handle to a desired operating height for comfort and control.
- Handle Tilt Adjustment: A quick-release locking-pin enables tilting the handle to different operating positions, including a 180-degree position for transport.
- Grinding Head Swivel Adjustment: The grinding head can swivel 20 degrees left or right for edging applications. This is adjusted by loosening swivel locks, applying down pressure on the handle, and moving it to align notches on the frame and motor plates.
- Grinding Head Adjustment for Edging: A specific procedure is outlined for adjusting the grinding head for edging, involving a Grinding Head Lock Bolt and an Adjustment Bolt, guided by an Alignment Indicator.
- Additional Weight Installation: The machine allows for the installation of additional weights to the head and/or the handle tray. These weights are fitted with magnets for secure placement. Adding weight to the head increases grinding pressure, while positioning weight further aft on the handle lightens head pressure.
- Dust Shroud Installation: The manual details how to install both 12" and 20" dust shrouds, including securing the hose and the shroud itself over the grinding head casing, with the 20" shroud using a T-Bolt lock. Rubber dust shrouds are also described, securing onto shroud pins.
- Tooling Installation: Instructions are provided for installing tooling onto both 12" and 20" grinding plates using M6 x 1 x 14 screws and a 4mm Allen wrench. The grinding plates are then secured to the machine's bottom plate with M12 x 1.75 x 25 screws and an 8mm Allen wrench.
- Burnisher Pad Driver Installation: A detailed procedure for installing a 20" burnisher pad driver and lock is included, using M12 x 1.75 x 25 (short) or M12 x 1.75 x 50 (long) screws and an 8mm Allen wrench, along with a locating pin.
- Starting and Stopping: Clear steps are provided for starting the machine (connecting power/dust collector, turning on dust collector, setting speed, releasing STOP button, lifting machine, pressing START, lowering machine) and stopping it (pressing STOP, waiting for complete stop, turning off dust collector).
- Grinding Speed and Direction: The grinding speed is adjusted via a knob, and the grinding direction can be changed using an L/R switch after stopping the machine.
Maintenance Features
The manual emphasizes the importance of proper maintenance for the DDG 1220:
- Maintenance and Repair Qualification: Maintenance and repair must only be performed by a Dynamic Diamond Tooling certified service technician or authorized representative.
- Electrical Safety: Strict adherence to electrical safety guidelines is required, including using specified power sources, fuses, marked and rated cables, and insulated tools. Work on electrical equipment should be done by skilled electricians.
- "SAFETY POWER OFF" Position: A critical safety procedure for maintenance, involving switching off the machine, waiting for grinding drives to stop, disconnecting main power, and securing against unintended restart. This prevents accidental reconnection of power during maintenance.
- Hot Parts Warning: Operators are warned that tooling and tooling plates, along with other parts in the drum, may be hot after operation, requiring extra care to prevent burn injuries.
- Cleaning: The machine must be in the "SAFETY POWER OFF" position before cleaning. High-pressure water is not to be used; instead, soap and water with a damp cloth are recommended.
- Daily Inspection: Prior to operation, a daily inspection checklist includes checking wheels for damage, removing dirt from the grinding head, tightening all screws, and looking for any general machine damage.
- Troubleshooting Guide: A table of common faults, their causes, and corrections is provided. This includes issues like the machine not starting (power failure, depressed STOP button, damaged connections/cord, internal error) and excessive vibration (high grinding speed, damaged tooling, worn/damaged grinding head, incorrectly fitted diamonds, loose grinding head bolts).
- Warranty: The product comes with a twelve-month (12) warranty covering material and design deficiencies, provided repairs are carried out by Dynamic Diamond Tooling or an accredited workshop. The warranty does not cover damage from accidents, misuse, unauthorized modifications, non-original parts, environmental factors (lightning, water, fire), or costs associated with transport or reinstallation. Periodic inspections, adjustments, and maintenance work are also not covered.
