(12) If life preserver does not pass inspection, locate and repair leaks (refer to
the Repair section of this manual). Retest life preserver after repairs are
performed.
(13) To locate leaks, submerge life preserver in a tank of water. Look for
generation of bubbles indicating leaks.

CYLINDER WEIGHT CHECK
A. Test Setup
A balance scale is required to perform this test. Refer to Figure 901 of the
Special Tools, Fixtures, and Equipment section of this manual for details.
B. Test Procedures
(1) Remove the CO
2
cylinder from the inflator according to procedures
described in the Disassembly section of this manual.
(2) Weigh cylinder. The allowable minimum weight is the gross weight marked
on the cylinder. Replace if necessary.
(3) Determine that the inflator-actuating lever has the lock clip securely in
place.
9. WATER ACTIVATED LIGHT/BATTERY - FUNCTIONAL TEST
A. Test Setup
The following tools and equipment are required to perform this test; a measuring
caliper and a light test set. Refer to Figure 901 of the Special Tools, Fixtures,
and Equipment section of this manual for details.
B. Test Procedures
(1) Use calipers to measure thickness of battery case.
(a) For P/N 517-15, measure case thickness across whole length of
battery. Case thickness should not exceed 0.475 in. (12.07 mm) at
any point.
