Overview

The 10250T contact block assembly is a versatile component designed for industrial control applications, primarily functioning as an interface between an operator and electrical circuits. It facilitates the control of various electrical processes through push-pull actions, offering both momentary and maintained operational modes. This device is engineered for robust performance in demanding environments, as indicated by its compatibility with a range of enclosures and its IP65 rating for indicating lights without movable operations.

Function Description

The core function of the 10250T contact block assembly is to translate mechanical actions from an operator (such as a pushbutton or indicator light) into electrical signals. It achieves this through contact blocks that open or close circuits based on the operator's state. The assembly supports different operator types, including momentary push and pull, maintained push and pull (two-positions), and momentary push and pull (three-positions), each offering distinct control functionalities.

For momentary push and pull operators, the contacts change state only while the operator is actively engaged. For instance, a 2NC (normally closed) contact block will open when pushed or pulled, and return to its closed state when released. A 1NO (normally open) contact block will close when pushed or pulled, and return to its open state when released.

Maintained push and pull operators (two-positions) offer a persistent change in contact state. When pushed or pulled, the contacts remain in their new state until the operator is actuated again to return it to the original position. This is useful for applications requiring a continuous signal without constant physical engagement. For example, a 1NC contact can be maintained open, or a 1NO contact can be maintained closed.

Three-position momentary push and pull operators provide more complex control, often featuring a central "normal" or "intermediate" position, with momentary actions to either a "start" (push) or "stop" (pull) position. This allows for a sequence of operations or distinct control signals from a single operator. For instance, a 1NO-1NC configuration might have the NO contact close on push and the NC contact open on pull, with both returning to their normal state when released from the momentary positions.

The contact blocks are designed to be assembled to the rear of the operator, with wires connected to saddle clamp type terminals. These terminals are suitable for 14 AWG to 22 AWG (2.5 mm² to 0.34 mm²) solid or stranded conductors, but it is crucial not to mix one or two conductors per terminal to ensure proper and safe operation. The ratings for the light unit and contact block are stamped directly on the components for easy identification.

Usage Features

The 10250T contact block assembly is designed for straightforward installation and flexible application. It can be mounted either vertically or horizontally, requiring a specific drill hole (0.136-inch diameter or 0.180-inch rectangular notch) in the panel, as illustrated in the provided figures. This adaptability allows for optimal panel layout and ergonomic design.

A key usage feature is the sealing gasket, which ensures the unit's oiltight integrity when properly installed. This gasket must be correctly placed on the operator and aligned with a locating nib before inserting the operator through the mounting hole. For specific protective boots (10250T/91000T), special instructions are provided to ensure proper gasket placement. This attention to sealing is critical for maintaining the device's performance in environments exposed to dust, oil, or other contaminants.

The assembly process involves securing the operator with a legend plate and a mounting nut, which should be tightened securely to 5 ft-lbs (6.8 Nm). If applicable, lenses, mushroom buttons, or other accessories are then assembled to the operator and also tightened securely. This modular design allows for customization of the operator's appearance and function to suit specific application requirements.

The device supports the use of up to two contact blocks per operator. It is important to note that single-circuit contact blocks must be mounted under circuit "A" for proper functionality. The maximum torque for stacking screws is 9 in-lbs; exceeding this limit or adding more than two blocks can lead to malfunction. Special function contact blocks are not compatible with the three-position push-pull operator, which simplifies selection and prevents misapplication.

The terminals are designed for easy and secure wiring, with a recommended torque of 7 in-lbs (0.8 Nm) to ensure reliable electrical connections. Only 60/75°C copper conductors should be used, adhering to safety and performance standards.

Maintenance Features

Maintenance for the 10250T contact block assembly primarily revolves around ensuring proper installation and periodic checks of connections. The robust design and high-quality materials contribute to its long-term reliability, minimizing the need for frequent maintenance.

The clear instructions for drilling mounting holes, gasket placement, and torque specifications for nuts and terminals are crucial for initial setup and contribute to the device's longevity. Correct torque application prevents loose connections, which can lead to intermittent operation or overheating, and also avoids over-tightening, which could damage components.

The use of saddle clamp type terminals simplifies wiring and allows for easy inspection of conductor connections. The recommendation to not mix one or two conductors per terminal is a maintenance-friendly guideline, ensuring that each terminal connection is secure and properly made, reducing the risk of wiring faults.

The device's compatibility with various enclosures (Type 1, 2, 3, 3R, 3S, 4, 4X, 12, and 13) and its IP65 rating for indicating lights without movable operations mean it is designed to withstand harsh industrial environments, reducing the need for frequent cleaning or protection from environmental factors. This inherent durability is a significant maintenance advantage.

For ease of assembly and, by extension, maintenance, Eaton recommends specific tools for tightening octagonal nuts (10250T/91000TA95 for E29, E30 lines, and E22CW for E22, E34, E30 lines). Using the correct tools ensures that components are properly secured without damage, which is vital for both initial installation and any subsequent servicing.

While the manual does not detail specific periodic maintenance tasks like cleaning contacts, the emphasis on proper initial setup and secure connections suggests that the primary maintenance is preventative, focusing on correct installation and ensuring environmental protection. Should a component fail, the modular design allows for individual parts, such as contact blocks or operators, to be replaced, rather than requiring the replacement of the entire control station. The stamping of ratings on the light unit and contact block aids in identifying replacement parts accurately.
