What to do if there is excessive case drain flow in Eaton Water Pump?
    • C
      Christopher ConleyAug 11, 2025
If you observe excessive case drain flow, it indicates excessive internal wear. Disassemble the motor, inspect the parts, and replace them as necessary. Note that the case drain flow should not exceed 1.5 GPM at full pressure.

Why does my Eaton Water Pump motor slow down under load?
    • J
      Jacob GainesAug 17, 2025
If the Eaton Water Pump motor turns when unloaded but slows or stops when a load is applied, several issues could be the cause: 1. A scored back plate. Remove the backplate and check the surface condition of the flat area. If it's scored, replace the backplate (do not lap). 2. A scored connector plate. Disassemble the motor and check the finish on the connector plate and back plate. Replace if necessary. 3. Scored or worn piston shoes. Disassemble the motor and examine the condition of the shoes on the pistons. Replace the pistons as a complete set. 4. Low relief valve pressure. Check the relief valve for the correct pressure setting. Adjust or replace the relief valve as needed.

What to do if Eaton Water Pump motor will not turn?
    • T
      Travis WalshAug 25, 2025
If the Eaton Water Pump motor won't turn, it could be due to: 1. Severely scored back plate and connector plate. Disassemble the motor completely, inspect and clean all parts, replace any worn parts, and flush the hydraulic system. 2. Contaminant particles holding the connector off the back plate. Disassemble the motor, inspect and clean the parts, and replace any parts as needed.

What causes a rapid tapping noise in my Eaton Water Pump motor?
    • J
      Jose SimmonsAug 29, 2025
A rapid tapping noise in the motor can occur when oil flow to the motor is shut off and the motor is allowed to free wheel. The free-floating pistons will collapse into the piston block. When oil flow is reapplied, the pistons will reseat themselves against the bearing race, causing a rapid tapping sound. This is not harmful as long as the oil flow into the motor does not exceed 10 GPM for the first revolution.

Why does my Eaton Water Pump motor free wheel?
    • C
      Cynthia VargasSep 4, 2025
The Eaton Water Pump motor may free wheel if oil flow and pressure are shut off. This can happen when the hydraulic system is shut off, either by turning off the engine on a closed loop system or returning the control valve spool to neutral on an open center system. After the motor has leaked off, it allows the free-floating pistons to collapse, which is inherent in the design. On a closed loop or propulsion system, the motor will not free wheel as long as charge pressure is maintained to and from the motor.
