Usual service conditions
Normal environmental conditions
Magnum PXR is designed to be used in a wide range of
environmental conditions, however, certain conditions
can affect the breaker’s longevity. The recommended
environmental conditions are outlined in Table 26. These
conditions will best prevent any breaker deterioration from
environmental factors.

For lower than maximum load currents, watt loss may be estimated by
reducing the full load loss by the following:
W
L
=(I
L
/I
FL
)

Ambient temp and thermal derating tables
Magnum breakers are tested and fully rated for use in
ambient temperatures from 0°C to 40°C. Thermal de-rating
tables are provided for different Magnum breakers operat-
ing in switchboards at various ambient temperatures above
40°C.The switchboard’s ambient should be estimated
using an industry accepted calculation method.

Low Temp breaker offering
For sub-0°C temperature conditions, Eaton offers anti-
freeze grease option. This anti-freeze grease can be used
in place of standard lubricant when temperatures are
below 0°C and can be used in environments no colder
than -57°C. When servicing in the field the special anti-
freeze grease must be utilized. If not, then low tempera-
ture operation may be compromised. This option must be
ordered from the factory.
